Should point out that this build isn't very good if you are low elo and need to carry. AP will always be better.

Is Fimbulwinter a good item ?

It could work really well, even though personally I am not a huge fan of that item myself.

I'm liking the sorcery tree better than grasp. I did a quick experiment between the two rune builds vs the AI Garen. Just me vs Garen, using your recommended items against AD heavy teams. Here's some stats from the two games:

Grasp build:
game duration: 42 minutes 10 seconds. final kda: 0/0/0
grasp 2963dmg 3290healing
shield bash 491dmg
conditioning 71% active 41 bonus armor 13 bonus magic resistance
overgrowth 344 bonus hp
manaflow 250b 2694 restored
transcendence 0
final stats:
4589 hp
1950 mana
total damage to champions: 33,099 total damage dealt: 281357

Sorcery build:
game duration: 47 minutes 42 seconds. final kda: 5/3/0 (one of my deaths could have been avoided, I died to tower after killing Garen under his tower)
arc 4136
manaflow 250bonus 4404restored
trans 5 seconds refunded
scorch 1530
biscuit 3 150 bonus mana
time warp 248 seconds hasted recovery from potions
immediate health restored 1273
immediate mana restored 787
final stats:
4404 hp
2100 mana
total damage to champions: 45,003, total damage dealt 316,927

So in my experiment with the Sorcery build I did almost 12k more dmg to Garen, and the comet and scorch combo alone did over 2.2k dmg more than the grasp + shield bash combo. The grasp build gave me almost 200 hp more health but does it matter much when you have over 4.4k health?

Should I wait for the shield fade to activate the W? To have the increased armor for the maximum amount of time? Or does the activated armor from the W combs up with the passive as well

Is grasp good into range matchups or should i take comet?

Nice guide. Relatively simple but full of the information you need to get going.

Do you ever start Doran's Shield? I've faced a couple of Teemo's of late and the poke can be brutal without running Doran's Shield and Bone Plating + Second Wind. He is for sure killable once you have your ult and after poking with Q a couple of times.

If you started Doran's Shield would you skip Doran's Ring and go straight into Dark Seal + Refillable Potion?

How do you typically combo your abilities in an all-in? Unstoppable Force + Brutal Strikes + Ground Slam + Seismic Shard? Any autoattack weaving in there. Animation cancels?

Thoughts on the Veigar match-up? Probably not very frequent in Top lane, but I went against one and it felt bad using the runes and starting items suggested in your guide. Another one where the Doran's Shield, Second Wind, and Bone Plating setup seems like it would be more workable.

Do your rely on the waveclear from the AoE aspect of Iceborn Gauntlet when Q maxing? I get the numbers aspect of maxing Q and W first, but I feel like my waveclear really suffers when maxing Ground Slam last.

Thank you for your comment!

No I don't consider Doran's shield being an answer in any cases. To be honest, recently I started to try running Corrupting potion instead of Doran's ring and it is pretty good as well (not sure if exactly better). It's more about playstyle against both Teemo or Veigar. You will have to play it safe and farm early on and sometimes you have to give up some cs, that's life. Malphite is situational pick, he shouldn't be considered as something that you should play in any case.

If you want to try different path for starting items - try Corrupting potion into Dark Seal and Sapphire Crystal on first shop. Or at least Dark Seal.

About all-in I usually go like R -> W -> AA -> Q -> AA -> E -> AA. You can probably swap E and Q order, but I like to have my target pinned down, in case that it decides to flash away or something (to keep my speed-up).

And yes, Iceborn Gauntlet waveclear is pretty important if you want to shove lane really fast and it should be more than enough to waveclear without maxing E. In some cases you don't really rush gauntlet - like against AP matchups. But there you are usually in pretty bad spot and you don't really want to push - just poke with Q and play it safe. Generally I never lacked ability to push wave fast when having Gauntlet, because the more armor you have, the bigger AoE is and later on you are going to have really huge splash there, so generally you are going to be able to shove wave of any size really fast.

I hope this sort-of helps and in case that you have additional questions or if I accidentally didn't exactly answer any of your questions, feel free to ask!

Thank you for the detailed response. It is quite helpful! I'll try starting corrupting potion in match-ups where I am likely to get poked a lot.
