Hi Kaji, how do you feel about full AP Nautilus support? I have been seeing it mid a lot lately and was wondering how it would work in a more supportive role.
2
KajiKumihoAkukei (140) | May 15, 2019 10:08am
Hi @ ClashofLeagues,

Personally I don't think full AP Nautilus would make such a great support due to the fact that it would take him too long to get enough AP items.
In the early game you will do a lot of damage of course, but as the game goes on that damage will fall off because of your low gold income as a support.
On top of that, I feel like like you deal enough damage anyway as tank support. So the tank route will be a lot more (gold)efficient and it will be more useful come late game!

I hope this answers your question. ^^

Greetings,

~Kaji~

Hi! I have been a naut main since s7 and im in love with his versatility in fights and tankyness. This build is really interesting because I never have thought to use domination as a second pathway for him, rather than inspiration with Biscuit Delivery and Magical Footwear which makes him a sustain god. What is your opinion on why most builds now contain resolve/domination runes?

Also big ups for making my boy shine:)

KajiKumihoAkukei (140) | March 9, 2019 11:44am
Hi @ cqueezy,

First of all thank you for the comment and I am glad you liked my guide!
I believe most builds contain resolve and domination to put more focus on the fact that Nautilus has some good early game damage and to make his trades more explosive.
Yes, he loses a little bit on the sustain part, but it makes trading with him in lane a lot more interesting! ^^

I am always glad to see another naut main and I am glad you also see that he is such a fun and strong champ!

Greetings,

~Kaji~

What do you think about Gargoyle Stoneplate? In my opinion it is one of the greatest Items for high-skilled Nautilusplayer.
2
KajiKumihoAkukei (140) | January 16, 2019 11:55am
Hi @ Canis858,

Gargoyle Stoneplate certainly has a place up there if you are looking at long and dragged out teamfights. If your teamfights are short and heavy I wouldn't go towards it, but there's definitely a lot of situations where it can be a valid item choice.

Greetings,

~ Kaji ~

I like the guide! Nautilus is a champion I've liked for a while, but haven't purchased yet. He seems to come on the free champion rotation quite frequently, so I usually play him then. It's nice to read a guide that shows how to play him as support. Thanks for the time and effort. Keep up the good work!

Nice!

Hi @ Wyllyum ,

Thank you for the comment and I am very glad you liked the guide!
I hope you will find a lot of success with it and that you have a lot of fun playing Nautilus. ^^

Greetings,

As a fellow Nautilus player, I'm wondering about some items I like to use. Spellbinder gives you a lot of ability power and +10% movement speed, which gives Nautilus a much-needed engage tactic. Also, the Black Cleaver is something I often use when I have a physical damage adc. Are these too niche, or am I just not using the best gear?
1
KajiKumihoAkukei (140) | September 12, 2018 1:30pm
Hmmm, interesting question my friend! :)

On the Spellbinder I can tell you that I like to pick that item too as well when I am playing AP Nautilus or even when I am building tanky, but only when there's another full tank on my team. So that item can absolutely be used, just not in every single game.
If you are the only tank on your team, don't build it. You are way better of going for a Turbo Chemtank if you want more movement speed for engages!

As for Black Cleaver, I can see what you are getting at because you are trying to maximize the damage output your AD carry can do. But personally that's not an item I would build. Of course, if the item helps you get the win, don't be afraid to build it! ^^

Morgana firsthand experience:stayed lane against morgana, really vulnerable on level 1-2, cause learns shield on lvl 3, and shield cooldown is 18 seconds. A lot of mana is used for her attack (gold farming) spells. She died a lot of times and fed adc. However, as game was prolonged, she simply E someone and denied my ultimate many times. Dredge too. Also u just come closer to someone (enemy adc) with dredge, and the guys shoot you.

KajiKumihoAkukei (140) | July 23, 2018 11:21pm
Yeah, normally if you play against a decent Morgana she will level up her shield first when laning against a Nautilus. At least that's my experience and it's what I do if I am the Morgana.
Doing this makes it a lot harder for Nautilus to do anythig.
And indeed like you said, the later the game goes, the harder it becomes to engage because she has more points in her shield.

Hey I'm a Naut support mastery 7 and I use ultimate hunter for more ults, since using it I always have my ult uup for a fight instead of having to tell my team to wait for my ult we usually don't have to worry since it is on such a low cooldown.

I also run boneplating for when you engage the enemy adc you take less damage in the trade and still get off your full combo on them. Good guide overall, I made one as well and it is pretty similar to yours!
2
KajiKumihoAkukei (140) | June 27, 2018 12:26pm
Yeah, I've been thinking about that as well.
I can absolutely see the point in going Ultimate Hunter because it will increase the up time on your ult by a large amount.
Sometimes I also like to go Bone Plating, but I feel like Font of Life fits the support role some more. ^^ Which doesn't mean that your runes aren't just as well suited for Nautilus!
1
Qwerty19 (2) | June 28, 2018 6:43am
Yeah I switch between bone plating and font of life depending on the adc, if they are attack speed hyper carries I do Font of Life but if they are more poke like an ez i will go Bone Plating for the better trade engages

Hey Kaji, do you think Nautilus is still viable as a support now that botlane is all messed up?
1
KajiKumihoAkukei (140) | June 13, 2018 2:50am
Hey man, fist of all thank you so much for commending my build!
To answer your question: yes, I do believe he is still viable.
There's a lot more freedom now in bot lane and Nautilus can absolutely still find his way on to the rift.
For example if you have a Yasuo with you bot lane (which can happen since patch 8.11). Everytime you use Dredge Line it's a free ult for Yasuo.

If you read the notes for patch 8.12 you will also see that shields (abilities and enhancing items) will get nerfed. This leaves more room for supports like Nautilus to create plays!
