But i was wondering about the items. Around the interwebs, i often see people saying they build Hextech Gunblade, but i don't see a mention of it in your guide, so i was just wondering about the reason for that
My beef is that the 8% true dmg only adds a small amount of unmitigated damage, especially against non-tanks. The healing is respectable, but Ravenous Hunter out performs it by a factor of 2-4 or more. On top of that, 5 abilities/attacks is quite a lot. I find that by the time I get pull + Q + auto + ulti, i'm now chasing them down without even proccing it yet. That's where phase rush is simply superior. The speed it gives you is perfect for getting all over them, ensuring your passive ticks, and increasing the chance for your next Q to land by alot, due to superior positioning.
That said, my perspective is based on Morde mid. I can't deny that for *most* match-ups in Top lane, conqueror is likely procced and utilized much more effectively than mid, and is more likely to be used to shred a tanky opponent. But I can't help but feel that the damage bonus isn't performing and heals can be obtained elsewhere.
As much as it performs nicely late game, I feel that with new Morde, not unlike pre-rework Morde, your early game is where you feast or famine, so I like to maximize my early game to ensure solid farming without getting zoned or bulled out. Of course, phase rush falls flat when the enemy champ can simply duel you, like Fiora or Trynd...that's where the match-up adjustments are important, like Omarowh commented.
