Hey everyone! 😊

We have exciting news about the future guide contests of Season 13. Authors have always given us positive feedback regarding the guide contests and we've also been satisfied with the format we've been running, but it's time to try something new to keep authors engaged and motivated to share amazing guides.

As you know, we normally host two guide contests every year, one at the beginning of the season and another mid-season around July. We will keep hosting a large guide contest whenever a new season starts, but the mid-season guide contest will be replaced by four smaller contests that span over the year.

These mini guide contests will focus on 20 - 30 champions handpicked by the admins and moderators, depending on different criteria such as number of changes in the latest patches, amount of recently created and updated guides, and so on. We would like to shift focus between champions to make sure we have freshly updated guides for all of them, as our community is the go-to place for guides, and finding outdated content or none at all is something that we want to prevent.

Below (and in the calendar above) you can find the schedule of the upcoming guide contests and other community events:

  • Christmas Event 2022: December 19th - 25th

  • Season 13 Guide Contest: December 5th - January 2nd for registration; January 3rd - 17th for judging

  • Ironman 2023: February 6th - March 3rd

  • Mini Guide Contest 1: March 6th - April 3rd for registration; April 4th - 18th for judging

  • Mini Guide Contest 2: May 1st - 29th for registration; May 30th - June 13th for judging

  • Mini Guide Contest 3: July 3rd - 31st for registration; August 1st - 15th for judging

  • Mini Guide Contest 4: September 4th - October 2nd for registration; October 3rd - 17th for judging

  • Halloween Event 2023: October 23rd - 31st

  • Christmas Event 2023: December 18th - 25th

  • Season 14 Guide Contest: December 4th - January 1st; January 2nd - 16th for judging

We can't wait to see how these guide contests will turn out and we would love to hear your thoughts! ♥

hmm interesting, wondering would you still give the gold/silver badge the the mini guides? or would u make a new symbol?

i do think the ideas of the mini-contests make sense for the websites, mobafire has always been lots of ****py, mediocre or no guides at all, with some excellent guides sprinkled in. I could see this also discouraging some guide-authors to not write from more popular champions (ie. if u were a yone main with corki secondary and you chose to write a guide , then its much more incentive to write a guide corki despite having much more to share about yone or smth).

Will there be other types of mini contests?
As in, instead of 20 - 30 champions, it will be a specific lane / role or off-meta or even a mini-contest about making guide-guides (guides on how to make guides)?
Vel'Koz is a midlaner?! No, no way you aren't lying!

Hey @ Dustyacer!

We will probably create brand new badges for the mini guide contests. They're still pretty far off and we haven't ironed out every detail, but it makes sense for the badges of the mini contests to be different of the main guide contest's badges. 😁

We're trying to spread out the contests to span over more patches and hopefully bring more new guides for less popular champions. It's going to be an experiment and we hope it'll work well for everyone involved!

Creating guides is difficult and I think we should appreciate everyone for trying. Everyone begins somewhere. 😊

Hey @ Metallichydra!

Right now we're planning to only have the champion requirement. Having only 20 - 30 champions to pick from is restrictive enough, we don't plan to add more specific requirements such as roles to further reduce options for the authors.

We love general guides about creating guides, warding, TFT and so on, but sadly not too many people read them and having a contest solely dedicated to them would not make be feasible right now. A few years ago we added a General Guides category in the guide contest and it worked fine, but the judges still had a pretty tough time picking the winners as the number of entries was small. We'd like at some point to revisit general guides, but maybe in the future! 😁

Hey everyone!

The Season 14 Guide Contest was initially planned to be announced on December 4th. However, after finding out that the pre-season will now be played on the PBE this year around, we've decided to postpone the event until early January when Season 14 will officially begin.

Thank you all for understanding, and see you at the Special Christmas giveaway next month! 😁
