This may come as a slight surprise, considering they only just entered the top 10 for the first time after semifinals. Meanwhile it looked to become a two-men-show between zapmaz and 1danne1, who had been forming the top 2 ever since the group stage. But our winner showcased the supreme strategy and foresight. While most people where stuck with only 1-2 players still in the running, flynnbomb's included 2 T1 and 2 DRX players up until now. The risk payed off and allowed them to take the top spot by storm right before the finish. With a total of 980 points, 13.2 more than the runner-up, it's a clean victory. The sudden rise of flynnbomb may or may not resemble a certain storyline we've seen before... flynnbomb comes out on top between over 1900 participants to take home a cash prize of $10,000. This is it, the final series of Worlds 2022. In the past years we've seen many spectacular matches, but it is certain this edition will go down in history. On one side, the most dominant team ever T1 with Greatest of All Time Faker, on the other hand DRX with an unseen miracle run, led by legendary ADC Deft. The stakes were insanely high coming into this series, and it delivered. Game 1 was fairly onesided in favour of T1. Their execution in teamfights looked cleaner, which ended up as a massive difference maker. The small advantages added up into quickly stacking Drakes and a Baron at around 20 minutes already. Not much DRX could do to retaliate against T1's great siege through Faker's [[azir]] and Gumayusi's [[varus]]. Dominant 1-0 for T1. But if there's any squad that has proven their resilience, it's undoubtly DRX. However the second game looked doomed from the start as well, with T1 picking up the first 3 kills during a topside skirmish. Keria's great [[lux]] performance then further increased T1's lead. DRX' great comp did allow them to bounce back though. Through the [[camille]] and [[varus]] they could cash in on some picks here and there to stabilize the game. Though it did seem like disaster would strike again. DRX were denied of their Dragon Soul for 3 Drakes in a row as T1 claimed an Ocean Soul. The momentum swinged back and suddenly DRX had to stop T1 from getting the Baron. It was time for Deft to carry with a great [[chain of corruption]] to win the fight. DRX didn't hesitate to use the small window to close out the game. 1-1 against the expectations of many already. Game 3 was full of tension once again. Teamfights often resulted into a 1 for 1, but gradually DRX could get the better of T1. And with some money on their carries, Zeka on [[sylas]] and Deft on [[kalista]], they saw an angle to fight for the Baron. But Oner disagreed. Through a heroic Baron steal did the T1 jungler bring his team back into the game. And with the Baron buff T1 could leverage a gold lead once again. On the other hand DRX did not yield just yet. Which lead to another Baron attempt by DRX. But massive damage from Gumayusi's [[piercing arrow]] and [[blighted quiver]] stole the Baron for the side of T1 once again! That was the tragic final blow for DRX right away. Match point for T1. Back to the drawing board for DRX, who now approached the potentially last game with a classic front to back teamfight comp. Losing the botlane matchup early on didn't really matter when larger skirmishes started to take place. Kingen's [[aatrox]] and Pyosik's [[maokai]] were absolutely massive. And with a Baron attempt going their way for once, DRX could tie up the series in a more or less clean fashion. 2-2, time for Silver Scrapes and what a moment for it. One game to decide the 2022 World champions. To start off we got some spicy pocket picks during draft. Pyosik on [[hecarim]], Deft on his [[caitlyn]] and Zeus trying to counterpick [[aatrox]] with his [[gwen]]. And the cherry on top, BeryL with the (seemingly random?) [[bard]] lastpick. Needless to say we got a game on a knife's edge. Early-mid game went almost dead even until DRX found a big teamfight win. The [[hecarim]] proved very useful to deal with T1's immobile [[viktor]] and [[varus]]. As a result the LCK 4th seed started up the Baron, but you wouldn't believe what happened until you see it for yourself. Once again, Gumayusi's [[piercing arrow]] stole the objective away from under DRX' nose. Gold evened once again and even went slightly in the favour of T1. But neither team could really find any meaningful advantage. It all came down to a Elder Dragon fight around the 40 minute mark. When it became clear DRX would win the stand off and secure the objective, both Faker and Zeus Teleported into the half open DRX base. On the brink of defeat, Kingen managed to defend the base 1v2 until Zeka arrived as well. An absolute crucial moment as the culmination of another great [[aatrox]] performance. Death timers on the side of T1 were high, and DRX had to make a decision. They brute forced their way to victory and even the respawning T1 members couldn't prevent them anymore from taking home the 2022 World championship in the most unbelievable way. Never before had a 4th seed won Worlds. Never before had a team gone all the way through Play-Ins to hail victorious. No one had much hope for this squad. All of their players were considered average, past their prime or too inconsistent. But they have proven to the whole World that it's not about having the biggest names, but about meshing as an entire team. Congratulations to the players, their coaching staff and the entire organisation! 2022 DRX will go down in history, and all players will receive a unique Worlds skin to celebrate their victory. Since this year they will also release a prestige skin, but it is unclear which member will receive it. His form can swing drastically, but when he's feeling it he's really on fire. And so he has really shown this Worlds. Still he is often criticisized for a lack of consistency. But whatever you think of him as a player, you have to love him. He always gives his all, both in game and after the game. By now he is infamously known for his unique celebratory dances, like his [[hecarim]] dance after finals. But if there's one champion he's known for, it's [[kindred]]. A few years ago Pyosik was a SoloQ [[kindred]] onetrick and streamer. The story is that one day his chat told him to go pro and create his own [[kindred]] skin if he finally wanted a good one. In quarterfinals they knocked out EDG, the 2021 World champions (and Deft's former team). The moment where the respawning inhibitor denied Deft from last-hitting the enemy Nexus, only to then lose the game and go down 0-2 is still fresh in our minds. The fact that DRX came back from that devastating blow and reverse swept EDG is such an incredible feat and showcases their mental fortitude. Next up they faced Gen.G. 4th seed vs the Korean champions and 1st seed. Over the entirety of 2022, DRX and GEN faced each other in 4 Bo3s. DRX went 0-8 in total. That DRX even won game 2 was already a miracle, nobody expected them to actually sweep another tournament favourite 3-1. Then the final stand-off against T1. Another team DRX couldn't take a single game off over the entire year. And T1 had been looking extremely good during the tournament so far. But somehow when people doubt them the most (only 16.5% of people picked DRX to win the matchup), DRX plays the best League of Legends. And what happened that day is magic.
