Matt hear me out for once!

I think we should allow the database to be openly edited by any user. There are a lot of users who pick up on little incorrect values and then have to post and wait for replies from us.

I know what you're all thinking; TROLLS!! TROLLS!! TROLLS!1

Well I've decided on some counter-measures;
To edit you need at least +10/15/20 rep OR 100 posts (I don't like that one as much though)
OR
Edits have to be approved by a Vet/Mod/Admin (Don't like this one either because it's effectively what we have right now.)
OR
Have the database store previous values so we can retrieve them if they get trolled.

I'm thinking that we need to be a more cooperative, helpful community and the best way to do that is to trust our users with a little power.

I always hear everyone out! I just sometimes do it quietly ;)

Hmmmmmm..... Restricting it by rep is not a bad idea... We could try it out for a while and see what happens. Getting even just 10 rep is *not* easy, and requires a hell of a lot more effort than getting 100 or 1,000 or even more posts.

We currently store a revision every time someone edits an item in the database, so that is there already, but at the moment it requires a manual roll back. If we're going to do this we might need a wiki-like revision history to go with it. Which doubles as a way to get some recognition for your efforts.

@Booshido, you'd be surprised. And even if it's not a massive volume of data, having more help means it will be up to date that much faster, especially after patches.

Yeah rep was my preferable answer too, seeing as most people have like <10 rep. Revision history sounds cool.

It isn't about the database, it's about the community.

Could be good. I vote for needing 20rep to be able to change the database. Trolling should be punishable too, if there is any.

ye I mean giving power to the people is good, and the rep idea makes it all the more reason to, but if there is nothing to edit, why do it? or is there loads of things that need to be done?

There are pros and cons about the amount of rep needed. Rep is kinda hard to get, but it's possible to spam higher by using friends. Trolls should probably get 1 warning for first offence, then 1 temp ban for second, then perma ban if it continues. Or something of that kind.

Every two weeks there are small changes to tooltips/values and people find errors sometimes
