If you're worried about it deteriorating when you become an old man, I think that you need to rethink if you truly want a tattoo.
If it doesn't have that much meaning to you, and it is an impulse tat, then seriously wait a bit.
I personally, am about to get a tattoo of a heart with a butterfly needly poking into it. (not a heart shape, a real human looking heart)
Because I am a hemophiliac. I dont care at all what it will look like when I am 70 because it means so much to me. (also in part because most hemophiliacs dont live to be 70)
I understand most people have tattoos that dont mean ****. but when its going on your body permanently, it should be something that has more value than just an aesthetic.
Sorry to hear that. I hope the best for you.

This is what I want to achieve in life, I feel like its never enough, and more needs to be done, but at times I easily give up, maybe having this tattoo could help me out through those hard times.
if you want to wear it as a symbol of encouragement, drive and willpower, maybe a location somewhere you can see on a day to day basis when you hit a wall or waterfall and need to look at it would be better.
The arm should be a good choice. I'd go for the underarm.
"I saw [Twilight: Eclipse] in theaters with a girl I was dating at the time. I spent more time staring at my toes and wiggling them than I did watching this abomination. When Edward proposed to Blank Face, I finally looked up with a revelation.
I blurted out loud, in a dead silent theater full of teenage girls on opening night "Wait a minute, Edward has no blood flow. How does he get an erection?" I heard several men laughing, and had several girls turn and stare at me.
I did not get laid that night." - Berengier817
