Pots should be used if you get poked too hard, make mistakes and take more damage than you expected. Generally they will help sustain yourself. I think scrax already spoke about the instant heal pot that also grants AD, so yeh. Personally I go 3 hp pots + boots on vlad, I think Doran's Shield is also an okay starting item.[/quote]

[/quote] If you're against AP in mid, Doran's sheild is terrible. Start boots + 3 pots unless you are solo top vs some beefy ad like udyr or Lee Sin. (in which case you should start cloth+5, or Cloth+Ward+2pot, since it offers much more lane sustain, you won't be bursted down by an AD, and you amp tome + pot is dangerous man. Note, that if you're against Yorick, his ghouls do magic damage, so you shouldn't start Doran's Shield.[/quote]
