I would say swain, he can do more and is a more interesting champ to play imo.

orianna is nice if you really know what you are doing.. swain a beast mid and solo top, but considered this is your first champion purchase i wouldn't buy either.. in my opinion you should get malzahar.. i rape in ranked with him, he is OP at lower levels and as you get better he will improve as well..
Swain is only good if you know how to use Nevermove.
Orianna takes a lot of skill too. Takes a lot of skills to just use her balls efficiently and how to chain them for maximum efficiency vs damage.

Just about to buy my first champion, and can't decided between Orianna and Swain. Both have qualities that I like and would love some other opinions on the matter. I like that you can combo with Ori really easily, especially after she gets her ultimate. However, I REALLY like Swain'd damage over time.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
