OHHH DUFF'S DUELING IT OUT WITH A HIGH ELO PLAYER
I do that in my normals every day. my normal elo is about 1900, I get 2k ranked players all the time in my normal games.
His team critiques his style of carrying a lot, saying he's too aggressive, which I'm sure is part of why he opted to do that.
But of course it still works, and I agree it's strong, given you're going to be using Q as your tool instead of focusing on right click.
It's the utility versus damage idea.
Also, Caitlyn will never out DPS an Ezreal who is properly stacking his passive and spamming Q's in fights, not even close. The damage gained from that is going to be superior to the damage from cait's passive. Ezreal's right click is fairly good, it shouldn't be underestimated.
If I had the quote I would post it, but DoubleLift thinks people feel Ezreal and Corki have been under rated as AD carry champions until recently because people were building Trinity Force.
To further delve into that idea, he would build Infinity Edge first, just like any other AD carry, and use Ez's kit to abuse the AS buff.
You might want the built in flash Ezreal possesses in some team comps as opposed to Vayne's crush your face damage. Kog Maw for example is a dead target against certain champions. Talon Poppy and Akali come to mind.
Ez's blink can sometimes mean the difference, and in that case, it might be worth it to pick Ez, but you may still want the "AD carry right click" and you may also want Ez utility.
And yes, Ez's magic damage is substantial. To be honest, I prefer AP Ez to AD Ez, dem Lich bane Q's crush faces and to have W and E deal a lot of damage along with ulti smashing a fight is really nice. The only problem is that AP Ez sucks until late game :P
But again, I'm not critiquing so much as discussing the champion with you.
Sure, it can work on Ezreal, but you'd get more out of another character if all you're looking for is right-click power. Ezreal brings more utility to a team. The end. I'm sure you could mix up the masteries a bit for the crit damage if you wanted to. I wouldn't get rid of the magic pen though, maybe Havoc and 2 pts in Vampirism or something similar. Ezreal's damage is still a fair amount magic based.
This was posted by Beeswarm17 in his Riven guide and since I think this is the best guide for Ezreal (I've had the most success with it) that the masteries should be updted to make it even better.
What do you suggest as an alternative?
Assuming about 70 damage starting out at level one (a rather generous value, honestly), and assuming you've dumped 3 points into Havoc (think where you found those points, too), you know have a whopping 1.5% damage increase. Now, what does that actually add to that 70 damage?
70 * 1.5% = 1.05 damage. Now, add that to your original 70 damage, and you are left with a whole 71 damage! That's right, viewers, for the low, low price of 3 mastery points, you can have all of this ONE damage!
Now, that's just level one. But surely it has more impact later, right? Let's tally this out at the highest AD value I can get for her: 6 maxed out bloodthirsters. 600, plus her 103.5 base at 18, plus 6.75 off of runes. 600 + 103.5 + 6.75 = 710.25 total AD. That's pretty large, but let's multiply that by 1.5%.
710.25 * 1.5% = 10.65 which gets added to the 710.25 to add up to 720.9, rounding up to 721. 3 mastery points for 11 damage at level 18 with maxed BT. And this is assuming no armor reduction at all. Havoc multiplies damage output, not AD. Granted, this works on critical strikes as well, but no matter when you count up numbers, it doesn't actually make much of a difference in any case.
So there you have it. Solid reasoning to never use Havoc.
