You should be fine the truly op champs usually get banned at the start. So the gap in power should be closed somewhat and if your truly good at playing those champs you should be fine
I liked Chauster's interview on what he thought about champions and the meta game he gives a pretty good argument for picking up some of the lesser played champions.
