Let me explain it with pure logic.
+ is the symbole to add stuff to each other right?
So if we have an term like 1+1 it means we want add 1 to the other 1, right?
So we either can get 11 out of it by simple add them side to side other but this not really what we want. We rather want to make out of them one expression. So we have to write it down diffrent way. The most simple way is to trun the other 1 around and attach to the sconde 1. This way we will get M.
Look I here is the prove and some basic Math for you.

Dat math is just too stonk!

For those who doesn't believe it. I tried IT!. Well not in the way he said but I bought a wire in the internet which is said to double your internet speed. I tried it, it worked, & since it was covered with platings, plastics, etc. I opened it and saw that it was just the same as what he did. Except that it wasn't tape that was holding the wires together. It was bended metal wrapped in a weird kind of plastic.
What's red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet at the same time? Rainbow

^Yes, duuuuh. He proved how it can.
That hokus-pokus math is totally legit.
1+1 is 4, right?
