We've all been there, normal draft mode, you're last pick for the 93rd time in a row because you don't duo-queue, first thing someone says upon entering. "top or mid plz". In other words, "i suck at communicating and working with people to achieve victory". Don't deny it, especially not if you're one of those people. Now I realize there are people who legitimately know those lanes well, but considering it's solo queue, most people suck at working with a team. I suppose I should thank them for admitting they suck at team work and accept the fact that we're probably going to lose the game.
Now why do I say that they suck at working with people, if we look at the other three roles, support, Ad carry, and jungler. All 3 of those roles require some level of communication and understanding of the game. I know people always joke about how easy AD carry is, but it's actually pretty difficult, especially being on the same page as your support. Jungler and support require the most communication and general knowledge about the game. People that say support is easy are idiots. Good supports win games, if you're simply a healbot soraka then you're doing it wrong.
Now why does this "mid or top plz" irk me? Because to me it's pretty insulting as someone who has taken the time to learn other roles. There is not a single player in the game who can't play mid or top. They might not be good at it, but there isn't anyone who would say "i can't play mid" or "i cant play top". Yet you do hear "i can't play jungle" or "i can't play support". If support is so easy then why can't you play it? What really irks me is people who claim they can only play this role, and I have good RL friends that do this all the time, learn other roles so you can be sufficient at the game. I may suck at jungling, but there are about 3 champions I know how to jungle with effectively, and I know every other role adequately. I'm not saying they might not know other roles, but limiting yourself to two roles in solo queue can easily lose the game for you. There are very few people who are effective supports or junglers, and when you call top or mid, you're pretty much broadcasting that to your entire team.
But why is it that these players are worse than others? I wouldn't directly say they're worse, but I don't think many people would disagree that solo mid and solo top are the easiest roles to play. Granted they're quite volatile lanes, in both lanes being first blooded can lose the lane, heck even dying once can you lose you the lane, were the same is not necessarily true for bot lane. But generally, these players are the ones who don't work well with a team, often they're out of position, constantly on their own, etc. It's pretty safe to say the hardest throwing usually comes from your top or mid lane. I know the stereotypes about bot lane, but usually bot lane players are much more team oriented, as is the jungler, they usually stick together, because they realize how essentially the team is to their success. I think a lot of mid and top lane players suffer from some form of ******ation that hits their brain in solo queue; they feel invincible and then it leads to being out of position and throwing the game.
So are top and mid only players really worse? Probably not, but I tend to find people that can only play those two roles are far less effective as teammates and more likely to blame their team for a loss than themselves. They often feel independent as if they're not needed for team success and I find this selfish mindset to translate into gameplay. You often see bot lane pick around the team. Let's be honest, people pick
Ashe for her arrow (just one example), and supports are always team oriented, rarely do you find a top or mid pick based around the team, they're often picked to win lane or for late game reason. These are the main reasons I find top and mid only players so ineffective and downright bad at the game. Now you can be an excellent mid/top only player and that's fine, but I think you could agree that solo lane's independence affects your game play.
anyway thats all I got guys

Meh, I play any role I need to, but I'm still gonna let people know that I'm best top, and worst in the jungle. Why wouldn't I let people know where I would be best used?
People who say 'I AM going top' or course bother me, but if someone says 'I would PREFER top' or 'my best lane is top' then why would that bother you? It's the exact same as telling people what champs you're best at. If someone on my team plays a good Ashe, and I know I have to support, then I'd like to know before I pick my support that they're going Ashe, so I can go Janna and kite all day.
It's the same thing, if someone is a great mid laner, and an aweful support, then I'm probably going to pick support, and let them mid, as it will likely improve our overall strength.
People who don't say anything are by far more annoying O.o

That's fine, I'm all for people playing their best role, but I have an issue with people who say stuff like "i am top" or "top or mid" almost like a command. You should fill around the role. For example I normally say "i would prefer ad carry or support". I think it would be nice if people would say they prefer a role rather than just demanding it

Personaly sounds like you are just QQ cause you don't want to play a support when your last pick.
i actually play support for my ranked team, I'm playing mostly support atleast 5 days out of the week, i get about 2 days for my own solo queue adventures, and then of course whatever time i put in outside of practice.
Moon is a good support, I play with him quite a bit. In fact, I'm led to believe that his strongest lane would be bot, either AD carry or support.
As for you Moon, I pretty much agree with you. I really don't like those people who refuse to play other roles solely because they don't feel like it. The responsibilities of normal draft/ranked is to play the role you're assigned. You must have a decent understanding of each of the roles in order to cooperate with your team and do effectively.
appreciate that, yes my strongest is bot, i frequently jump between ad and support for my team, whichever we need.
also, it's not that I want top or mid for myself, because usually I don't i'd rather have something bot, but I just find it irritating for people who know no other roles to not make an effort to learn other roles, specifically ones that involve team coordination. If you want to play solo then play world of warcraft or something like that

1. there are always people good at the roles, but literally everyone goes into a game thinking they will carry. So i don't buy it when you say i call those roles to carry because people at my elo are bad. Sure the other roles are harder to carry out of, but they're more effective when you do carry them. In fact i think a good support, jungler, or ad carry could carry a game harder than mid or top.
2. Scarra and Dyrus would be exceptions, obviously at high elo people play specific roles very well, but just so you know, dyrus plays every role in solo queue. I think it's a little different at 2500 elo and normal draft.
3. I don't have a problem with people who are good at those roles, but when they literally only know how to play top or mid proficiently then I have a problem. And even if they're best at those roles, there isn't a single person in the game that couldn't play top or mid. They may not be the best, but they're still proficient enough at it.
If you're saying that about your top, and mid players, then you're completely contradicting yourself. You say they don't know what teamwork is, and they don't know how to play, yet you're the one saying that. If you're gonna sit there and bash your own team, then you obviously aren't going to play well with them -.-
Sure, but there's a difference between the two. One is a playstyle, I find mid and top players to be less effective team players because of the way they play not the way they act. Everyone has the choice to act a certain way, most people however don't adjust their playstyles
I don't see what the problem you have with people calling "mid or top" is. They are probably best in those roles, and it's not a good idea to have someone who is best at being a bruiser top go bottom as a support.
And wtf do you blame them for?? You haven't even seen them in game yet, but you are pretty fast with your conclusion about their ability to teamplay.
Mid isn't the easiest role to play as far as I'm aware. It requires a lot of team cooperation and map awareness.
Anyways, although for many cases you are correct, but it's not always true. Many people are just letting you know what they are best at.
I always tell my team that "I'd like either mid or support", but it doesn't mean that I'm incapable of playing other roles or to play as a team. Just means that I play mid or support the best...
Because people at my Elo are *that* bad >_>
