Nautilus and Kayle are two of the best one's to learn top with imo. This is because they are both incredibly flexible with their build and offer a lot for your team. Kayle can be a melee DPS, offtank DPS, or an aura based offtank/support. Naut can go AP offtank, full tank, or full AP (sometimes.) Guys like Olaf and Jax have pretty specific roles and are mostly used as counter picks in my experience. (though i jungle Olaf a ton)
Another champ to note: Nunu & Willump is a counterpick to as-based champions. Tryndamere will hate his live.
