Fun pick as hell, but situational at best. You also get Triforce for jungle Alistar most of the time.

That just makes him trinity force cow. It's good and all but when you get a pentakill with infinity edge alistar, When you kill an enemy adc in 2 hits while they are stunlocked. That's ad.
I don't think he plays like tryndamere at all, if you build ad you are kind of squishy even with your ult. Ad alistar plays like a very mad cow that wants you to try to 1v1 him while his ults up.
Or 3 shots you while you are trying to run from him while his ults up.

Do it in Dominion, there you can actually get itemized for it.
Current 5s, movespeed+tank+Aura"star" is incredibly strong.
You could put him in top lane, but his mana costs and lack of any real sort "win trades early" mechanics would mean his jungler would have to camp top. Headbutt+Pulving someone to "initiate" a trade is ill advised early, and he would fall prey to champs like Irelia/Jayce/Olaf/Vlad all of whom have mechanics which allow them to trade rather well against other top lanes.
Next factor in his lack of AD scaling on any ability (his ult GIVES AD, doesn't scale with it, to clarify), while being a melee bruiser who goes "semi" invulnerable with his ult SOUNDS good, keep in mind that, most players build champions due to what they "scale best with". So while AD Ali has its merits he would ultimately fall short to champs who do have AD scaling built in.
IF I had to lane Alistar (non support) I'd lane him as AP. Amazing CC+Burst coupled with how ridiculous Lichbane can be on him to finish that burst. That is MY preference.

But on AD you have to get CDR anyway (if you want to have dmg + that CC) can't see while ppl than say AD is comparable in viability to AP.
Just play some real AD carry that has the same CC power, not really rare and you can actually use your skills to do some dmg.
Instead of wasting 1 completely, 2 on soft CC and your ulti to being the only thing that gives you a viable 7sec AD approach.
I mean what hinders ppl to actually play Jarvan, Renekton if they wanna go AD Bruiser.
