Okay; this is my first blog post. I'll try to keep these weekly and it will be on overall league of legends strategy. If you enjoyed/agreed with my post, please +rep me, it helps my name get around. If you disagree or have helpful advice, leave a comment and I'll +rep you in return. Anyways, let's get to the post.
Why people play Mordekaiser wrong
In my 9 months after revisiting the league and seeing what it has to offer, I can't help but notice many people play a champion the way they do because of how they look. While in many cases this is true, Mordekaiser is one of those champions where you can't judge him by his 'cover'. Many people build him as a tank, even as an AD bruiser without giving him much thought. "Oh look, his Q boots his auto-attack! He's an AD bruiser all right!" or even as far as "He's made of metal and has a big mace! Tank time! :DDDDDDDDD" However, these people are wrong. TANKS NEED CC, WHICH MORDE LACKS, and if you look at Morde's spells, only one, count it, ONE, scales on AD. I play Morde quite often and have to say that, while many people expect quite a lot of you once you get into higher ELOs, they never quite understand that he isn't a carry in his own right. To be more accurate, he's a carry Only if he has another carry's ghost. Outside of that, he's an AP bruiser who has enough teamfight potential to attack enemy carries THROUGH THE ENEMY TANK, and not die as a result. This being said, you can build him total glass cannon and still wreck, but you'll still die rater quickly unless you're fed. You need at least 2 SPECIFIC items for Morde to keep him from being focused instantly and dying.
1. Rylai's: Morde lacks CC, and is quite squishy. Rylai's is a godsend, as it fixes both. If you have a Fiora on your team and she's chasing that tank down, slap creeping death on her and BAM, your whole team can INSTANTLY punish that Alistar. In other words, You'll milk those!
2. Zhonya's hourglass: While I miss Zhonya's ring greatly, hourglass is a great way to add some survivability with the bonus armor, and the active can save your life from so much. DoTs, Lazor beams, stray Kassadins, Cannonballs, Chuck Norris, and a variety of deadly puppies and minions. Also, protip. If you hourglass, Your ghost is still command-able! Too many people forget that particular fact, and it's a great way to pull off some great damage while being relatively safe.
So that's the end of my rant, drink & gamble responsibly, and I'll see you guys next week.

I disagree with Rylais, the slow is negligible, the ap is negligible, and the hp is pretty useless. But I do know people LOVE to build him with it, so w/e.
While I thought the same thing, and bursting carries is definitely a priority on Morde, there are certain situations when the slow is useful. For example: If you're chasing a Jax and you know he can leap strike away, put your ulti on him and watch him scream in fear as you close the gap on him. There are certain situations when the slow is not useful, (GAREN. >:L) But I find that the added early survivability and slow help secure a lot more kills and save your life more often than maybe an extra 60 AP. Mostly personal preference, but I can see your point.

Well, it is somewhat viable as the slow can apply just about everywhere but Rylai's not cost-efficient enough to be good for him. He doesn't benefit enough from it, jsut like you said.
Morde should focus entirely on bursting those carries. Usually flash + burst does the job and then you just don't die because of the ghost and constant shield.
