Hi, I'm new in the game so it is the reason to read this guide. I'm only level 8 and I played Riven for about 7-8 games. I can't use yet your rune and masteries recomandations but it looks ok. I played most of my games as solo mid, everything goes well until I reach level 9. At this level, The magic start hitting me harder. You have suggestion for adding magic resistance? I supposed with all the runes, this problem doesn't exist? Other question, in the masteries utility tab, the option fleet of foot seems pretty good for Riven?

Would like a match-up for Xin Zha! Just a thought :D Whenever I play against Riven as Xin I dumpster so hard on her...

Just a thought, it seems to me that that point in Butcher would be better for a jungler, and the point in Feast seems like it could be spent better somewhere else, since Riven doesn't use mana. Just my two cents, but otherwise, I like this guide. :)

Well, I am a big Riven player, even in higher Elo (Mid/high Diamond) and I like to read guides, because sometimes you might find things u didn't notice or think about.

I found some real weird things in here (for my opinion).

Never start with anything else top, but a Doran's shield, Doran's Blade or a longsword. (all+pots and trinket)

Boots are completely wasted on Top lane, as they give you nothing but...mobility. You are a fighter, not a kiter. As for being tanky Doran's shield is the best choice. In medium hard Lanes you should buy Doran's blade, in easy matchups even longsword.


Hydra, hate or love it. In my opinion this item is great for splittpushing and sustain, yes. But and it is a big but, it simply has lower lifesteal and AD stats as Bloodthirster. Sadly, all Riven needs is AD, armor pen and CDR. She has enough waveclear throughout her Q's and her W, so I think she benefits most from the simple AD stat from Bt. 100 AD = 640 dmg on riven. (She scales with 640%)

Next topic, skill order. Always max out Q first, besides you are in a really tough lane, then max E.
Maths: 3xQ= 90 Base dmg + 75 Dmg /lvl. No CD change. Ratio: 210% bonus AD
W = 50 Base dmg + 30/lvl. 1 sec. CD less per rank. Ratio 100% bonus AD

So you get 45 Dmg more/lvl (not the 110% bonus ad scaling counted yet), for 1 second CD change.
What do you prefer? More than 45 Dmg or 1 Sec. CD?


This is mostly for the ones, that wrote they max W first.

The combo with ult should be added: Activate Ult, E, AA, Q, AA, W, Q, Ult, Q. You CAN add a AA after the W, but it is situational. Take a look at the HP and think of the enemies mobility.

Tip: You can jump your third Q while firing your Ult. Train this a little bit and you will have lower casttimes.


Last but not Least: Max CDR is pobably one of the most important things on Riven.
The 40% CDR build is really strong, as you gain dmg, more shields, more mobility.

Amazing guide! A few quick things though:
Sight Ward needs to be updated to Stealth Ward (just noticed it on your guide, need to update it myself)
Trundle's Ult's name changed to Subjugate
A few of your screenshots aren't loading for me (might be on my end though)
Masteries section needs to be updated but you already know that
