So I'm fairly new to LoL and have only been in a few games with a jungler, never mind playing one. I was thinking about picking Jax up to to do it in Season 3. I'm not too bothered if hes best for position, but want to make sure he will still be viable before I spend the IP. Not too knowledgeable on what the changes really mean for Champions, so help is appreciated. So is Jax a viable jungler in the future?

If anyone else wishes to know of changes in Champion Jungler viability but can't answer my question, feel free to ask about your chosen Champion and hopefully someone can help :)

I'm not a jungle expert or anything but I'd assume Jax will be at least OK in the jungle. Not sure for sure though, I've never Jax jungled because I don't like using a character where they aren't strongest.

I personally think Jax will be ******edly strong. He has strong ganks, stays quite high health and the gold earnings from jungle will increase, he will be able to reach his carry level faster.

Jax, from my experience and from a couple of friends' as well, as a jungler can do well. But he'll have to rely on getting those early kills to be able to get to his hyper carry status. Unlike junglers like Shyvana -who can do well without having to rely on ganking very often to get strong-, he can't simply farm it up in the jungle since it doesn't offer much. And that translates into not being able to buy your core items ( Trinity Force and Hextech Gunblade if I'm not mistaken) as early as you normally would in top lane.

I can say that he does really well if he manages to get fed early or if he gets to free farm a lane somehow. He has one of the best late game potential from the entire roster (If not THE best), since he can 1v1 everybody once he gets his items. To answer your question: Yes, he CAN do it, but I say keep him in top lane unless the enemy laner counters you.
Many thanks to Xiao, jhoijhoi, TinyStar, Tsuki, and WOMBO for the sigs!

Did you even read the jungle change? Jungle will offer way more gold, not as much as solo lane but near it. This allows you to reach carry status just with farming.

I read it yeah, but didn't have the context to "get" it, as such, with nothing to compare to prior. But okay, thanks, think ill give it a go!

New jungle will kill champs just as nautilus and ali or sejuani they will likely be buffed dmg or clear time wise.

There are new items for tanky support-type junglers and also creeps give way more gold, which guys like Nautilus and Alistar desperately need.

I'd wait until the changes actually take place, but this statement is mostly true.

What is going to make champs excel in the new jungle is the ability to maintain high health early, due to the higher damage from the monsters. This will be made slightly easier with the new item they are coming out with for AD junglers, and tanky junglers as well. Jax should do OK, but I think he will lose some of his early ganking potential, since he doesnt have a way to regen his health at early levels and his dodge doesnt last very long. I think you will be fine with some mastery and rune page tweaking.
