Well, I checked out a lot of guides for various champions, and noticed a lot of people starting with the cookie from masteries and even the scouting ward. I play mainly support but I do not really dip into the utility masteries, I actually either use a AP Tanky page for most if not all of my supports, starting Faerie Charm, 3 wards and 2 pots. I tried to vary from it, but I really noticed the best results from that setup so far.
I'm looking for some insight from more experienced players. Should I look into changing my ways to get better or should I just stick with what I'm comfortable with. I'm rather aggressive in lane, even when I ask my ADC to set back and farm, I will get into people's face with my poke, hence my tanky setups (Actually, I use my AP rune page for Sona and Lulu, for extra damage/poke).

It really all depends on what champ it is. I would HIGHLY suggest digging into the utility tree at least enough to get the magic and health regen and extra cash at startup and gp10. The cookie and 1 minute ward are also extremely useful. About the only time I would say it was OK to not do this is if you go for a support that is typically an APC such as Lux or Zyra for really painful harass, even then I split between offense AP and utility. Grabbing the extra cash at startup in the utility tree lets you grab a pink ward, reg wards and health pots with either a fairy charm or regen bead. The pink ward is EXTREMELY useful... It typically means that they can't ward anything for 3 minutes unless they back and grab a pink of their own, since a large majority of people dont start pinks. If you get the extra cash at startup and the 1 minute ward you start with 4 wards, which is 10 minutes of coverage if you only ward the one bush. Not saying thats the only place you should ward, just saying. Anyway, good starts for tanky champs is: regen bead, cookie, mastery ward, pink ward, 2 reg wards, health pot with the remainder. Ap harassing champs, same thing, with a fairy charm. OR, you could potentially start with a Mana Manipulator, reg ward, cookie, mastery ward, and a pot if you play heavy ap harass champs like Lux. Doesnt work for every lane combo but it works for adc's that use alot of harass spells, and it also builds into a shard later on which is a great support item.

Try 0/13/17. You take unyielding and block in defense masteries and you can still get the extra gold, explorer and biscuit.

For items you either go Faerie Charm and wards then philo or you go with flask and then build something like Mikael's Blessing.

remember Sightstone is just like a gp10 (Each ward you place=75 saved)

I would highly recommend you to get the ward in the utility tree. It's a free 60 sec ward. Can be very useful.
