Can ryze be beaten in lane? (plat diamond only)

I took teleport, but I was thinking about taking cleanse because I knew he would flash w and maybe pack ignite, which he did. If I had cleanse, I definitely could have escaped my first death, and maybe he wouldn't of snowballed on me. Is there any way to beat ryze besides having him camped? which doesn't always work? Platinum/Diamond responses will be listened to. Most all else will be ignored.[/quote]
