Views: 2252 Weekly Diamond Jungle Musings - Sejuani & Trundle
|
So for those of you that don't know me my name is Lasty. I'm a Diamond Jungler, and I've recently become active in the Mobafire community. I'd like to start doing a weekly jungle blog. This will be the first entry, each week I'll take a popular jungle topic and offer my opinions on it.
This week we are going to look at the Sejuani and Trundle re-works. Lets start with Trundle because his position is a bit more clear than Sejuanis at the moment.
Trundle: The reason why Riot felt the need to re-work Trundle is because he didn't really fit the current jungle meta very well. He was single target so he never really had a fast clear. His ganks have always been fairly weak especially without red buff. So they re-worked him and changed virtually nothing. The changes look like buffs on paper, but in-fact they are pretty negligible. They gave him %health damage on his ult then took away the tenacity on his W. They gave his Pillar a bit more displacement and now it interrupts channels, but they made his Bite feel a lot clunkier. They balanced each buff with a nerf elsewhere in his kit.
His clear is still pretty meh, and his ganks are also still meh. If your opponents ward correctly they'll see you coming from a mile away. I would say post re-work Trundle is still a pretty low tier jungler. That being said, I've seen him played quite a bit since the re-work in the top lane. The added displacement on his Pillar makes him difficult to gank, and he could emerge as a pretty good top laner. 9-21-0, AD runes, Blade of the Ruined King, Sunfire Cape or Randuins, GG.
Sejuani: I have been receiving such mixed reports on Sejuani. Some people are saying shes stupidly broken now while others are saying shes slightly worse since the re-work. She's seeing bans at really high elo, which could just be reactionary. They gave her tons of %health dmg on her kit which means she'll continue to do damage mid/late game. Her clear isn't insanely fast but that in and of itself isn't a deal breaker. Her ganks got a bit stronger with the addition of a knockup on her Charge. Her Ult has always been really good but its unreliable in team fights. In a lot of team fights you won't be able to ult the important targets because its a line nuke. More often then not you'll end up ulting a Malphite and a Nautilus =P. Her ult is really good during ganks, and at catching people that get out of position mid/late. If you can't hit important targets in a team fight you are better off saving her ult to peel for your adc/apc.
In my opinion, Sejuani feels strong. I like mobility, her Q lets her travel across impassable terrain. She does a surprising amount of damage mid/late, so she can't be ignored in team fights like some other junglers. She has good, not great CC. She can't really lock someone down the way Nautilus can but she feels like she does more damage so its an even trade off. I'm not ready to put her past tier 3 yet, but I wouldn't be upset if someone picked her in an important game on my team. Give it some time to figure out the optimal build/runes/masteries and then we'll see where she fits into the jungle tier list. 9-21-0, AS marks, MS quints, Ancient golem, Sorc shoes, Ninja Tabi, or Mob boots, Sunfire, Abyssal. Can finish with a Randuins or something but you'll rarely get past the core 4. Give it a try and let me know what y'all think.

I just played trundle. He felt pretty much exactly the same, except his w felt weaker and his q feels WAY clunkier. I can't describe how his new q feels, but it feels like **** compared to his old q.
Not sure about any other tier though, just thought I'd share what I've personally seen out of him. :/
You never maxed permafrost first on Sejuani.
You max W, then E, then Q.
I disagree with a few things you propose, namely trundle. Also, you DID max permafrost on jungle sej in s2. Most players would put 3 points in w by lvl 5 to improve clear, and then max permafrost after. I think people were even doing this in early s3.
The reason sejuani sucks is because her ult can be blocked. Imagine if malphite ult stopped at the first champion he hits. I've had many an ult flash+blocked by their megatank when it was perfectly lined up to hit their back line.
I think you underestimate trundle's ganks, clear, and overall utility. He leeches AD (a unique ability), has huge disruption, and serious resist shred. Sure he lost his free tenacity, but mercs are a great choice of boots, and he didn't lose much by having to now build them.
He's better than you think he is, for solo queue, not so much teams.
If you want to get better at jungling/win games. Pick Nautilus as much as possible. I think hes stupid broken. If he doesn't interest you, Jarvan, Xin, Hecarim, and Volibear are all still pretty strong.
http://www.twitch.tv/tollhousecookie/b/397490908 Game starts at 1:02 and is professionally shoutcasted. I think there are two games in the link but we had a DC the 2nd game so we had to forfeit. We ended up winning the 3rd game of the best of 3 vs an all Diamond 1 team. If you want to see the 3rd game check out my AMA I posted it there. You should recognize our mid laner and the game is a flawless example of jungle Nauts power is I do say so myself =P.
