i had played a game where we fought against a mid graves. either the player who is using graves is strong or it is just our katarina who sucks. he just steamrolled mid and the last thing we know we only have the inhib left :C fair to say we lost XD so he might be good

APCs naturally counter ADCs.
If they survive to 6 they'll probably repeatedly burst you 100-0, and steamroll over you mid game after they get a damage item or 2.

You can lane mid solo with Caitlyn just fine. Other ADCs, not too sure. Never seen them mid minus an occasional lane swap (and even then those are incredibly rare in solo queue, I've only seen those recently in ranked 5s).

Just watched Hoodstomp play Graves mid vs Ryze in soloQ. Well, I was watching YoDaTV, but Hoodstomp was in it. He kept getting ****ped on by Nasus ganks early on but caught up rapidly when left to free farm when Ryze started roaming. I couldn't really evaluate it, but I remembered this thread when I was watching and thought I'd mention it.
To my knowledge it should theoretically have been a good matchup. As H4xDefender mentioned, w screws up Ryze's targeted casting and Graves' wave clear can abuse Ryze's early weak wave clear, which Hoodstomp appeared to be trying to do given he was frequently pushing against the tower. Also, being AD mid he could AA down the tower faster, a nice little bonus.

Graves mid is strong. He too has pretty neat burst, not on-par with most mids, but he has strong auto-attack harass to make up for it, and his passive makes him tankier than the average mid who builds full damage. Strong wave-clear, strong harass, tankier than most, decent burst, decent escape, his unique CC makes him hard to fight for champions who need to click to use their spells, aaaaand he scales amazingly with levels and CS.
