Views: 1041 My First Week w/ Sona and Maining Support
|
Hey there, K0R3 here.
Even though that absolutely does not ring a bell to any of you. :P
I'm going to illustrate to you via words my first week maining with Sona and maining support in general, I hope I don't bore you with that, but first: a little back story on my career with League of Legends.
Essentially, I played the game from release but I (unfortunately) had different things in my life that forced me back and eventually out of the game entirely. About 2 years later, in mid-to-late 2012, I decided I'd return and see how a game formula I'd loved since DOTA for Warcraft 3 had progressed in the time I'd spent away from my first real competitive love.
...And boy, was I impressed.
The entire game, the entire meta and the entire community was SO strong and in sync. I had a blast for about a month and a 1/2, got to summoner level 22 (if I remember correctly) and was just absolutely enjoying myself. Eventually that ugly thing called 'IRL' reared it's head again and forced me back into a premature LoL retirement.
But alas...
I'm back!
So coming back into the game, (recently) I wanted a fresh start so first thing was first, update the game (NERF AP YI!!!) obviously and then come up with a new account handle.. I went with K0R3, after my name from a fairly successful Call of Duty AM/Semi-Pro career. I was back.
I think my first return game I played as Ashe, as I remember her doing fairly well the other times I'd tried to play consistently. I got absolutely slaughtered and immediately realized the giant meta overhaul that was now in full swing.
RESEARCH TIME!
I looked up the new season's ADC builds, favorites etc. and realized how exponentially different builds went. Upon trying Ashe for a few games and eventually unlocking good ole' Tristana I realized that ADC was no longer my cup of tea like it had been in the past and honestly, I was shocked. It, for the longest (on and off) time, was my role-of-choice and not to sound cocky but I was nailing it in previous League of Legends endeavors so it had me completely and utterly... flabbergasted. What was I to do?! Save up until I could try something and MAYBE like it? Yeesh that's not what I'm about.
Tuesday rolled around and I happened to be playing ARAM with my IRL friend Jordan (Nadrojj in game) who actually turned me on to ARAM in the first place. I was admittedly kind of a Summoner's Rift snob until I realized the hectic, chaotic and vastly fun and rewarding ARAM. This particular game though I happened to grab Sona.
(which later to prove extremely rewarding in my favor!)
6/2/39.
Was the result of my first game since beta that I'd played with her and I was HOOKED.
I started running massive amounts of summoners rift with different friends who I damn near forced to play a carry role so that I could start to get down my support finesse with Sona and I'll be damned if they didn't end up loving me for it. I'd found my niche, my role and of course my main and I was hooked. This week with Sona I've acquired a 3.00 W/L ratio with Sona and various friends and randoms on ADC. (by far better than I did with attempting jungle, top lane, mid and even as a noob to jungle)
If you haven't tried Sona recently, give her a shot on support before this coming F2P champ jumble and tell me if you don't absolutely love her pokeyness, versatility and over-all ability to absolutely rip a game apart.
Hope you enjoyed my spiel about my first week as support and especially as Sona.

Meaning if you're picking her JUST for her ultimate, you'd be better off taking
She's probably most like
But yeah, she was my first support too lol. I take her out every now and then and dust off the Arcade Sona dress, but I find that I'm less able to get kills for my partner in-lane and less able to get them to safety.
Her biggest issue is lack of CC. She's got the slow, provided you trigger it correctly (which is difficult for inexperienced players), and her ultimate (which has an ultimate CD). She's a fairly safe pick for people new to supporting due to lack of skillshots.
Lack of cc? That ultimate is so good, that the only problem would be spammable cc. Another problem would be squishyness or mana hungryness.
Thanks for the reply, first off.
I am aware that it was honestly an easy game for me to do well (win or loss tbh) in ARAM with Sona, although it's not the lack of difficulty drawing me to her. She's a lot of fun to play and her versatility makes her an amazing combo with almost any carry (as far as I've seen so far) and as far as skillshots go: she's almost entirely without due to her ult's range but regardless, she's an excellent choice.
Definitely an amazing opener into the world of supporting!
