I've played 80 games to get to gold. If you are playing rankeds, play them for self-improvement, not for climbing ladders. Also, don't stress about them. I take them almost as seriously as normals.

I play this game for a loooooooong time and I am silver :P
There are also other players that play in much less time and are like platinum or diamond or something. Depends on the person. If someone is really motivated to learn a lot from this game and is capable of doing so, will have much quicker a high tier than someone who just plays, to play.
And that is just mind-set wise. There are a lot of factors in the game itself that are very important (like builds, gameplay, roles, whatever) and all those factors combined will make you raise tiers.
So learn to understand all items, runes, masteries, summoner spells and champion (+abilities). Know what they are capable of, when you use it or how you counter it.
Learn to understand multiple tactics, objectives, warding, teamfighting and stuff like that. Know what they are capable of, when you use it or how you counter it.
To learn all these kind of stuff, you can play games, analyse games, watch progames, research lolwiki, hang out on mobafire, play with high tiers (not silver, but like platinum or something) and some other things. The process of improvement will take some time, so have fun on your ranked journey :P

I was gold after like 2-3 months of ranked.
Hit 30 super late s2, went into ranked and ended with 1150, got to 1400 preseason, came in silver 2 and got to gold 5 fairly quickly.
I have been playing about a year now (started begin last summer break now like 4 month into summer break so yeh :D)

I've been playing for over 3 years now but I only started playing ranked seriously in s3. I played almost only normals and customs in s1/s2. I got silver from a few ranked in s2, I don't even remember how. Now that I started playing seriously I got placed in Bronze 3 and flew straight into silver in like 5 days of playing (probably like 20-25 matches). It took me a couple of months to get out of silver and get to gold. Now I've been stuck at Gold 4-ish but I've started to play better and better and it shouldn't be too long before I hit plat. If I don't this season it's a certainty for next season.

I played 80 games to diamond. I had a big head start from my s2 plat and I went 9/1 in my placements.
This game is more about mechanics than anything else. Game knowledge is a close second.
****ty mechanics, slow learning speed, inability to absorb new information, bad instincts, and unreliable connection/hardware are the biggest contributing factors to being bronze and staying bronze.
I played dota for 3 years so I walked into league RIGHT AFTER beta with 0 game knowledge but flawless mechanics. I was quick to absorb new information about the game and I followed the meta voraciously. I was friends with vman and mashme from day 1, and if I had taken the game as seriously as they had early on, I could have made a splash in S1 or S2, but back then who knew League would have become what it has become today? I'm not kicking myself and it doesn't bother me at all, but it would have been funny to wonder what my life had been like if I had been in top 20 in elo S1 and snuck on a curse or a clg, which I think could have been likely.

I have been playing League for a year now,but i havent been so active from the start, due to the school and stuff,so i recently started to play little more than i did before. From what i saw from my games that i played so far,im not even decent enough to be in Silver or anything higher, but my expectations were bigger. How long have you silver/gold/platinum players been playing and with which concistency you played to reach to there.Im prepared to do whatever it takes to get out of that ugly Bronze league im currently in.
Sorry for my bad grammar,im not so good at it :)
