You can skip tiers if your MMR is high enough. I think about 20-30+ lp gains with a win streak will let you skip.

Dammit I would have skipped B3 my first time in promos then but I lost the first promo set then started getting 12 lp for a win

does that work the other way as well? Like if you lose a **** ton can you get demoted down two divisions?

No, but you get demoted faster since your MMR makes you lose more and more.

i.e

-30 -35 -40 then drop, instead of -10 -10 -10... drop

I skipped Gold III and got promoted to Gold II after I won 4 ranked games. (30 LP from everyone (almost))

Morde repeatedly died top lane, because he kept shoving his lane up to the tower 24/7 and only warding the river, so Elise camped him until Riven got fed. After that he kept dying 1v1 against her for no good reason other than "meh, i'm not worth any gold anyway".
