Hi, I'm Lyñx (someone took Lynx so I added SEA). I play on the SG/MY server (Garena and their one-patch behind with no Tribunal server), and I've heard rumours and jokes that the Mobafire community is trash, but after looking through some of the discussions and guides I think that it's not as bad as people exaggerate, but it's definitely true that for guides, appearance>content, with most top guides having extremely fancy layout with little to no in-depth explanation of the actual gameplay/champ. I also notice that slightly less "viable" builds are often put down, and people mindlessly downvote because a guide does not have X item. I view this as a problem.

However, since the SG/MY server means I can't make a LOLKING guide, and Mobafire seems like a good place to make a guide, I created an account to participate in the community and to publish a guide, which is on one of my main champions in a role people view as "troll"-Jungle Ezreal. I hope people will not just dismiss the idea of jungle Ezreal immediately cause it helped me to get Gold V from Silver II, which is my current division.

I do have a few questions on making a guide/the community though:

1. The newbie guide on BBCoding (which I also think is essential, though not to the ridiculous extent shown in top guides such as the top Cho'Gath guide for example) does help, but I am still confused on layouts to make my guide interesting. I don't intend on writing a wall of text with minimal BBCode, so I will need help with this.

2. What is the average elo of the community? Here in SG/MY Garena server there are like 10s of thousands of people in Bronze/Silver, with only like 6 (5 filled, 1 not yet) gold divisions, 2 platinum divisions, 1 diamond division and Challenger (which makes about 2k and a bit less), but I'm not too sure in other regions. This will help me with the content of my guide.

3. Why do people like to exaggerate the Mobafire community? And it seems like new ideas here are being rejected without much "consideration". Any underlying reason?

4. Any newbie tips that you can give?

This is all I have. For anyone reading this, thanks for your time and this is my first post on MobaFIRE!

I hope you stick around on Mobafire, but 99% of people who sign up don't stick around.

1. Mobafire has a lot of members, who, like I previously said, sign up and don't stick around. A lot of people join each day and they all just join to upvote a couple of guides and then leave, leading to one guide that's at the top ending up completely unbreakable from that position. Like that Cho'Gath guide, which sucks.

2. Jungle Ezreal can be pretty legit, I've seen it work before. I just don't think there's much of a reason to play him there other than 'my adc probably sucks so I better play jungle ezreal so I can carry' 'oh I wanted to play adc but that's taken so i'll just play jungle ez'

3. Mobafire has been around for 4 years, and at the start it was exactly what everyone accused it of being, a place where a ton of bronze/unranked people who had no idea how to play the game made guides that were held up on a pedestal. Since it's one of the most popular sites (was back then too) for League, people hate it as a LOT of people used those guides and ended up regretting it later when they found those guides sucked.

4. At this point the active Mobafire users tend to go from silver - diamond. However the people who vote on guides but don't stick around are still almost exclusively bronze/unranked. And for the most part as to why stuff that isn't standard is downvoted to no end is because it's bad. We have enough guides that are bad at the top that we don't need more rising up.

1. http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/forum/build-and-guide-discussion/guide-making-help-and-tutorials-22667 :3

2. Its low. I do not have the statistics, but I remember reading a while ago that it was something around bronze 1ish.

3. There is a lot of freedom on mobafire, which means a lot of people can do as they please, which sometimes gives negative effects on the image of mobafire itself. This freedom includes the rejection done by the members of mobafire.

Thank you for your response, it seems like the problem is worse than I imagined. Well, I believe that there will hopefully be other more capable guide writers who can take the top spot from guides that lack content but look fancy. I'm here to stay, the forums in Garena are totally **** and full of witch hunting, and this is one of the few sites that actually have other LoL players in a decent community. The introduction of Diamond/Challenger players from NA writing guides on Mobafire does help, as these guides will hopefully be among the top and will make Mobafire guides better. And I certainly agree that guides which lack credibility do appear like wildfire here, with the ones with nice appearance reaching the top. I hope that I can stay long term here(I probably will though my gametime will be reduced quite a bit because I hope to get to the medical field, hence commencing intense mugging for the next 2 years) and make some sort of impact to the community :)

Also, is there a way to verify your ELO without using LoLKing?

MobaFire uses Elophant, but you have to be on an official server, as far as I know.

Welp, Garena servers aren't part of it, so I guess I can't verify. Guess I'll just have to add a screenshot in my guide.

You should PM Matt/Mowen (the people with red names) and they might be able to help you with your verification problem.

I'm glad you're planning on staying, and good luck in the medical field ^^
