I believe you're spot on. The reason I didn't think about it at first is because the refresh seems so subtle that it looks like It's a very short buffer from switching tabs (**** computer :S). The fact that it was the page actually quick-refreshing didn't strike me back then.
All in all, it's a cool feature :P If only it was on tablet though. I have the tendency to close everything with the home button so It can come in handy :P
