This is going to be a thread continuing from @Madmack. I felt that I should make a thread dedicated to this purpose. What purpose am I talking about? I'm talking about making Mobafire 'better'. I myself like Mobafire a lot, but I feel that there are some things that could make it better like a little IM chat system, or a Notifications icon. However, some of that stuff is up to Matt and the other admins. As we all know, they have a lot on their plates atm. So what can WE do?

Well if you truly care about Mobafire, you would do some extra things as it right? Now, I don't know what it is atm, but perhaps we can have a little open Mentoring session for everyone, announcing it on the LoL forums. Of course, we'll get flamed and haters. Hell, everyone will ALWAYS have haters. However, most people don't even know we exist! So I've been thinking about our popularity lately, and I did a little experiment in game.

In 10 Normal Games(100 more wins than losses, so that'd be a little above the average player), I solo queued by myself. At the start of the game, I just asked a friendly question in /all, "Do You Know What Mobafire Is?" Out of 90 people, only 17 people said that they have heard about/know what Mobafire is. 5 people said that Mobafire was bad.

Now I'm not saying that we should start spamming Mobafire everywhere, but what can WE do to make us more popular? To make us look "better". I know we're always going to have haters. Hater's are gonna hate. However, out of a "Little Above Average Group ELO", 68 people did not know what Mobafire is.
So my question is, What can we do as a united community to make Mobafire "better" and to be more well known?

Go Go Brainstorming!

We can do this as a Community. People have always said that ours was small right? Well, let's show people how big it really is!*

/peptalk.

TL;DR - If you care about Mobafire, you'd read all of the above. I don't expect all of you to read all of the below though. That's crazy talk.

*No sexual innuendo intended.

implement a system where junk builds / guides (i.e highly downvoted ones or duplicates) are deleted from the server and implement a system where general guides can be designed (i.e a guide with no champions selected would be considered a guide on gameplay, etc)

But those aren't community related!

as a community, i don't know, it's more or less the content of the website that dictates peoples opinions on the website.

Making us sound better huh? Well I reckon we teach these biased people what true good community is! Let the bells of awesome ring! And let mobafire be the melody to which they sing to! Let us stand tall and show them how its done here on Mobafire! Let us show them how we are able to adept to any charge they throw at us! Let us stand alone and triumphant as a United Community of the Internet!

Anyways now that I got my speech out of the way here are my thoughts. Overall I think database wise we are far above what they think we are. We have updated items and such within a few days of the patches, and champions are also updated as well. Now Xaioli what exactly is wrong with our community? Do they burn our builds just because it is not what they would do or play for that matter? If you have an assumption about what they are calling "bad" then I may be able to give more advice.

Although here is my two cents right now. Would it be a good idea for on the homepage that instead of just having the highest ranked builds, but rather random builds allowing other good builds to move up in the rankings. Now would this make other builds vunerable to trolls? Quite possibly yes, but if they are hating us for the builds. I bet they look at the rating the views, and comments half the time and go, "Oh this build sucks time to tell everyone about it." Though doing this would give decent build's critcism they need in order to do better, and allow them to improve upon that build allowing them to get a higher score.

Instead we have a forum to ask for help with our builds, in which most cases is ignored. You can put "check out my TF build" in your signiture, but does that really get anyone's attention? No not really. So good builds for all we know are rotting away at the bottom of the rankings unable to climb because people are obsessed with all these awesome builds at the top of the scoreboard. (And that is my two cents).

Edit: I have one suggestion. A comment tracker on builds, that appears on on thier profile allowing the person viewing that profile to determine whether that person is trolling them, or maybe they are giving good advice or how much experince they have on the topic. By comment tracker I mean thier most 10 recent comments on BUILDs (because that is the what is acutally voted on now). Now I know you can usually tell this by the content, and post number #. This maybe another way to help filter out the community. (Also may help locate and eliminate trolls, and or reverse unjust downvoting).

Edit 2: Looking closer at these posts on that link I just want to show them whats up. Now its really hard for me not to post a reply, but this would just feed them more ammo to throw at us. Oh but boy am I a little pissed.

I've actually suggested a lot of these before. On PvXwiki, a website for Guild Wars builds, there was a trash system that would automatically delete any guude rated below 50%. That would help us reduce clutter.

General guides would definitely help.

Regarding Rudmed's idea, I also suggested a while back that we have a series of build spotlights, maybe selected by veterans or even regular members. These wouldn't be the top builds but would rather bring attention to guides that deserve it.

All guides under 35%. Not trashed, but is only viewable to the author. Thus, we aren't destroying it, instead, we're forcing the author to re-create a better version of the guide.

I suggested previously about a Notification system, where after you comment on a forum topic, you get a message when someone else replies on the same topic (this will help you quickly and effectively find a reply to your question, or stay up-to-date on what topic your commenting on.)

About the publicity stunt, I think that people who are dominating games should attempt to speak about Mobafire, we do not want to give a bad impression of this awesome website...

It would be nice to see people who can create custom skins, make some for the Mobafire community, make us similar to leaguecraft, just alot more polished and presentable :D!

More teamplay, personaly I have made a few friends on Mobafire who I play LoL with (for example, Mcaay on my EU account) we tend to dominate games because we both have alot of experience and we have at times publicized our builds in LoL (well...I know I have :P!), hence I was able to get a quick 5-6 votes on my old master Yi build.

What i did in early games (especialy when i reached 30+ bought runes and had my 2 month WW extravaganza OWNAGE) was adverting MOBAFire ingame in the start and end of the match in /all.

Alot of ppl were asking about my build/runes when i played WW or Yi. I also advertized MOBAFire that way. saying "Go to MOBAFIRE.COM and look for DEWO guides."

I still do it when i can and when i feel i pwned games :) Just for the tease and additional advert :P
Did i help you? Click that +Rep

My idea is on a thread of hypershatter that talks about this matter but i'll post my idea here to, the more known it gets the better :) .

I think i'll add an idea to this which could increase the activity on mobafire.
I've seen some sites/forums do this trick, add a little chatbox (movable by the user through profile settings) with several channels (this is to prevent overpopulation i guess) where people can chat.

Reason i post this idea is because it can help GREATLY on the newcommers who have no idea where to post something, find a thread about something etc etc.

How?

Veterans as you call them often visit the site, and respond very quickly, with this idea they can help the newcommers find what they are looking for or tell them where they should post w/e they are eager to post on the forums and prevent stuff like : where do i place this comment? lets try this section.... MAJOR TROLLING & FLAMING on your post..... and then you get the /never return\ situation.

This is ofcourse if the veterans are willing but you get the idea right?
Also it does not have to be the veterans, people who are new but know some things could also be of help there as they most likely will go there to with questions which means they can respond to if they know the answer.

It also gets more people to think: ooh, this website has a chatbox, let's visit it more often because it is always fun to chat with random people i don't even know(Or at least, there are alot of people like that).

I think something that could help our community that wouldn't require admin support would be this: Veterans (or anyone who wants to, but let's be honest veterans are 90% of the community and a lot of them have top builds up) could post in their guides for people to add them in game in order to mentor the players who come to the guides. So now, instead of someone who'd come to this site for a short amount of time, vote on a few builds, then just come back for builds, these people will look at the guides (the only way the majority of the users use this site), and be like, "oh! I don't want to solo queue and this dude can help me with my playstyle. I'll add him in-game!

If we can get a majority of the veterans and active members to do this, we'll be bringing in players consistently by personal involvement. Your friends list might get a tad cluttered, but every time you play a game with some of these users you'll be bringing more future veterans to the site and helping a LoL player in general at the same time.
Click for one of my awesome builds!
