Riven has quite a lot of bad top lane matchups nowadays, especially after the recent nerfs to her base health regen. Matchups like Darius or Quinn are really difficult to outplay and require pretty high mechanical skills on Riven if you want to even have a chance and those should come naturally after lots of practice.
A lot of it also relies on what items you decide to build. For example, against a ranged opponent like Quinn you want to start Doran's Shield to reduce the harass you take in the early laning phase and then you probably want to go for mobility so getting Ionian Boots of Lucidity and then Youmuu's Ghostblade will allow you to stick to her and give you a better chance of killing her.
In case of Darius, you want as much single target damage as possible. Start with a Doran's Blade or Elixir of Fortitude and be aggressive early on. Try to time your shields for when he goes in for a Q (is usually pretty obvious) and always make sure you have some sort of escape left after you go in for a trade unless you want to go all in. Build items like The Brutalizer and Bloodthirster and try to snowball an early lead, that's probably you best chance in that lane.
If you really like Riven, just keep at it. Once you get familiar with all her abilities, combos, tricks and stuff you'll start seeing a lot of improvement.

I've looked at the guides and have my runes, masteries set up right I think, and I've been following the Q then autoattack then Q again when I combo (used to just hit Q 3 times in succession). That helps but I just can't seem to get even OK at playing her, and it's pretty annoying to watch everyone else tear stuff up with her.
