If you really want to play ranked, then just go for it. Log in and queue up, it's that's simple. Don't pressure yourself to reach a certain rank, because this'll often lead to anxiety or even tilting when things don't go your way. Just play the best you can, playing the champions you like and your rank will go up naturally as long as you take it seriously.
Personally I never played as much ranked as I wanted to because I tend to go on tilt pretty easily, but I started in season 1 when I had about 300 normal wins and felt ready. (I wasn't)
As for champion pool, experience, goals... none of that really matters to be honest. You play ranked when you WANT to play ranked, when you want to improve as a player and have a visual representation of your current skill level.

I started playing ranked quite fast after hitting level 30, probably having 300 or so wins, way back in early Season 2 (I started League late season 1).
Got placed at 1200/1250 elo (low silver), topping 1300 before dropping far down to 910 elo (bronze 3/4). Between January 2012 and July of the same year I was stuck in so-called ELOHELL, but that was mostly a mindset thing. After that I started climbing steadily, topping 1535 elo in late season 2 and Diamond 5 in season 3 (I got placed in Silver 2 at the beginning of S3).
Anyway, go ranked once you feel confident in your own abilities. It doesn't really matter if you drop down deep because the experience will always be the same - you get matched with people of your own level. Diamond is just as toxic as bronze, perhaps with a bit less leavers but besides that it's all the same. Just don't be afraid and it'll all be okay in the end.
PS: If you need any advice on ranked games itself, feel free to PM me for any advice. Since I've went from low bronze to diamond I have pretty extensive experience on how to 'treat' solo queue.

^ What they said.
I'm slowly getting better at queueing up for ranked games, but it's hard. It really, really is.
Part of it for me is also that I enjoy playing as 5 a lot more, which is why I often tend to invite people for normals. I've somewhat gotten past the point of caring about what others think of me / worrying about playing poorly (I'll feel worse than anyone else on my team if I do, anyway), but I feel I still lack the desire to push myself and always play rankeds over normals. I want to become a better player, I want to get some sort of respectable rank (though as Khazem said you shouldn't focus too much on that), but something's missing.
For now, I'm trying to ease myself into it by duo queueing more regularly, but eventually I hope to spam ranked without any anxiety at all.
Maybe one day, maybe one day......
(good luck :P)

I have the same problem. What worked for me is I played enough of the game where I'm comfortable in all matchups for my main role and have a decent understanding of what to do in the other roles. Eventually normals got boring for anything other than practice as ranked just gives you more. The anxiety never has went away, just lessened as I began to view it as a learning experience and focused on improving my own play.
I just realized I had a million spelling mistakes, so I got rid of some of them at least... Now alright, thanks for everyones experiences and tips. I really appreciate it.

You're probably right. Maybe I shouldn't consider pressing the "Solo Queue" button, instead just do whatever I want. If you mean get on tilt as in playing really bad over a period of time, I know exactly what you mean. I've always been admiring those people who has a match history only filled with ranked. Thanks for the advice thought, I'll try to not thing about my champion pool and so on.

Seems like a lot of people started playing ranked when they had about 300 wins. And about queuing up... I think I care way to much about my placings. I am really afraid to be placed Bronze (as it's kind of a competition within my friends). I know I could climb, but I lack my confidence to do so :/
I will be sure to PM you whenever I need any advice (it will for sure come). Thanks a lot for your comment! Helps me out a lot :)

*Phew* at least I'm not the only one

I'm glad you're partly over your anxiety!
I feel exactly the same. I enjoy pre-made 5 games a lot more, because I'm usually not the worst in the group. And if I am, everybody says its alright. And, I'm not forced into picking a champion or role I don't want to do.
I will and always want to become noticed or at least better in any of my games (but who doesn't?).
I haven't tried duo queuing yet, as there's a huge difference within skill-level of those I play with. And, I really don't want to ruin somebody else's promotion series.
Hey, maybe I just answered my own question. I am afraid of ruining games for other people.
I'm glad you're getting over it! Let me by your disciple lol, show me the right way

You're probably on to something. Maybe I should start main one spesific lane, try out its champions and hope to get my wish in queue? I hope to hit the point when normals are boring at some point soon!

That's a good point. I tend to take this more seriously than it really is, after all its just a game. So, normals = ranked + visuals. Seems about right. Thanks for pointing that out :D

I want to talk about my fear, and how it got started.
Before I hit level 30 I was already signed up to the MobaFire community and checking some guides out. At that time I was pumped for playing ranked, but was naturally unable due to my lack of levels. When I finally hit that 30, I was more scared than pumped. I have nearly never played any ranked matches at all. The only time I actually played ranked was during the pre-season, because it was a week until the real ranked system started again. My placement was Silver IV.
When I installed the update for Season 4 I thought and were very sure that I would play more ranked. This ended up being false; and I again ended up without any played matches. Since I got to Silver IV before this season, I don't really have the motivation (as I'm probably not that good (self-confidence sucks (and brackets within brackets within brackets))).
Despite this issue, I really want to be playing ranked. I don't know if it's my champion pool (2-3 champions each role minimum) or if it is my experience bothering me (I kinda am a *****, yes).
When did you guys start spamming ranked? How many wins did you have? Champions? Experience? Is there a goal I should reach before I start?
Thanks in advance!
And I've seen a similar thread to this before, but I could not find it (I'm sorry)
