Hello.

I'm supposed to update components for old windows xp. The client is
updating it to Windows 7 and needs more proper components to perform better.

It's quite old pc but he doesn't want to change it and buy new so in stead
changing components is the only option.

What he needs: Compatible motherboard, 4GB RAM and processor with budget ~180€
I'm not so sure about the case but I believe he builds rest of the pc
compatible with the motherboard.

I have no clue about computer parts for older pc. Anyone capable of helping me out here :/ ?

Do you have any clue what he has right now?

If I were you I'd look around for a solid APU (AMD A8-6600k perhaps) at 100€ and from there on you can get motherboard and 4gb ram for under 100€.

Nope. He is just theoretically building it.
The components don't have to be exact but rather guiding.

Check my edit ;-)

I'm heading off for exams now, but if you want you can PM me and we can discuss some more. I'm a quite experienced PC builder myself so I might be able to help.

Could something like this work ? It would end up costing more than he originally wanted though. Would need to cut down the price as 150€ was comfort price and 180€ max.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A85XM-D3H (50€)

Processor: AMD-A8-6600K (100€)

RAM: KINGSTON 2x2GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL11 (50€)

Yeah, I had a quick look and all these components are compatible. If you want a bit cheaper, I'd mainly look to cut costs on RAM (I was under the assumption you could get 4gb for 40€ max, considering I got my 8gb for only 70€) - if that's impossible, go for a slightly cheaper APU (perhaps 5600 or 5500).

If he actually already has a somewhat decent graphics card you can also look to swap it for the Athlon II X4 760 which has no in-built graphics but comes with higher clock speeds.

I'd definitely stick to AMD though since they have the best mix between CPU/Graphics in one. If you'd go for an Intel CPU you'd need to get some extra graphics because Intel on-board sucks.

EDIT: Just make sure that his power supply has an 8-pin power connector for the CPU! Some older PSUs only have 4-pin.

Depending on the brand, heatsinks and speed, probably yes.
