First time I agree with Maradona in my life. FIFA are indeed a bunch of idiots who are serving financial interests of companies and teams. Messi totally didn't deserve that golden ball, I am not saying that he is a bad player of course BUT others simply played much better.
Also not quite sure about the Golden Glove award. Neuer deserved it of course but Netherland's goalkeeper was outstanding too.
Anyway, the Messi era is just over. Everybody knows it, even he himself. He had his chance but couldn't jump at it and prove that he's better than Maradona. With all these semi-serious injuries under his belt I don't think he will ever live up to the expectations again. Hope he proves me wrong!

Because it's supposed to go to the best player of the tournament, and Messi wasn't even the best player for Argentina during the World Cup imo (that'd be Mascherano).

I still think that he deserves it a bit, it was just a misdetermination by FIFA. The discussion is pointless to be honest. Articles like this one (in German) are just plain dumb instigating senseless discussions with weird arguments.
But tbh, there is no German player who would have deserved it rather than any other German player (Müller, Boateng, Hummels, Schweinsteiger) and James really doesn't need two trophies. Robben would have been the ideal winner imo.
