To begin with, the standard core items for junglers these days are Boots of Mobility and double gp10 (typically in the form of a Philosopher's Stone and a Heart of Gold). This gives you a good amount of income that will help you cover the time you spend ganking, even if the ganks themselves fail.
Secondly, Elise's AP scaling is terrible in the early game so any kind of flat AP runes are bad for her. Magic Penetration is much more useful. It's also bad for her to get AP items in the early game. In the late game it's a little better, but her AP scaling is still just moderate.
Thirdly, you get Rod of Ages much too late for it to be cost effective. RoA is an item that you need to get within the first 20-25 minutes of the game for it to be worth the cost.
Don't get Berserker's Greaves on her, her AS scaling is limited. For jungling Boots of Mobility are best because they allow you to travel quickly over the map and they help with initiating ganks (you keep the high speed until you hit or get hit).
I hope my comment won't be too much of a downer for you. It takes some time for the community to figure out a champion, so naturally many early guides are somewhat off.
