The more I play Cass, the happier I am with this progression of items to build her to end game. It makes a lot of sense.
Yeah. She has a strong early game, one of the best, and instead of just gearing her on emphasizing that, I tend to build her so her strength keeps on going instead of falling off a bit as other AP's who build more to late-game start to shine.
The build is good, with the exception of the same mistake so many people make on Cass. She is built to weave in and out of combat, comboing a q with an e or two before dodging her way out. Starting with a Doran's ring puts you at a severe disadvantage. I seriously suggest a boots start with two healths and a mana. Dodging skillshots with boots and a q buff makes her mid spectacular.
That's why I have boots as an alternative. Doran's is for those that aren't quite used to her or for those that would prefer to get a bit of a safety net with the extra 100 health.
