Kayle Support

By Mobafire Account
Summoner Spells
Flash: Almost every champion in the game benefits heavily on having ghost or flash. If you take the Sorcery tree (which I do) and take the Celerity rune (which I don't), taking ghost is viable on any champion, in my opinion. Otherwise, I typically take flash.

Heal: Kayle already benefits from a healing + speed boost do to her "W" ability. Pairing heal with "W" doubles up. If you run heal and shield power items at all, you should be taking heal anyway, which I do in my build.

Alternative Summoner Spells: Exhaust or Ignite

Exhaust: Always a great option to take for a support.

Ignite: Since Kayle has an execute, it's pretty effective to take ignite when you get really familiar with her killing potential. A well placed flash, ignite, "E" has a great potential to kill.
Items
Core Items: Diadem of Songs & Ardent Censor

I've ran Kayle a ton of different ways. Carry with Nashors, full CDR, and combos like Mandate and Battlesong.

I always wanted to make a Ardent Censor build becomes it's basically a support mini Nashor's Tooth. The problem with this item on Kayle is that it doesn't provide CDR, which Kayle desperately needs due to her not getting a lowered cooldown on leveling her "W" ability. Diadem partially fixes that problem by extending its duration consederably.

Diadem plus Censor is such an amazing combo, especially for Kayle.

Diadem of Songs: As mentioned before, it pairs perfectly with Censor, but Diadem also does some other great things too. I'm not sure how much this is mentioned, but Diadem counters Ignite and helps with other DOT related things. Kayle also has extreme mana issues, which Diadem takes care of.

Build Path A.

Bandlepipes: Pairing this item with Censor is about as amazing as Diadem with Censor. Running any support build with Kayle considerably hurts her damage output. Now, if you're playing assist support and not carry support, that's fine. Kayle's damage mainly comes from two different sources, on-hit and attack speed; Kayle's ratios are quite bad. These two items not only provide your carries with massive attack speed boost, but also Kayle's. I also don't want to undercut movement speed (which this item gives), which is almost the most effective stat in the game, in my opinion. And of course defensive stats are always great for any character, but even more important for supports.

Terminus: Like Nashor's, Rageblade, and Censor; this item is perfect for Kayle. Attack speed and on-hit, then also provides Armor and Magic Resist shred which adds to her existing shred. The duo shred is extremely good for hybrid on-hit damage builds. Lastly, since you have a defensive item before building this; it will *hopefully* grant you the survivability to gain the stacks it provide to make you tankier.

Build Path B.

Moonstone Renewer: Any support utilizing heal and shield power in their kit should be using this item, but this item paired with Diadem is amazing.

Dawncore vs. Redemption: I like to take Dawncore here. Dawncore's downside is no CDR, but because the Diadem and Censor combo, I'm not too worried about CDR. You'll gain max effectiveness out of Dawncore's passive because every item will have mana regen, so your Summoner Heal, Diadem, and "W" will sky rocket in healing. However, Redemption is already one of the best support items in the game, and is amazing with Kayle's ultimate. It also provides CDR, which is still great to have regardless of the Core Items combo.
Abilities
I start with "E" to be able to poke and not drain my mana with "Q", as well as a free spell to start building Manaflow Band.

I typically take "W" second here to ensure I can reach the target to poke and get away; as well as topping off both you and the laning parnter. If the enemy team composition doesn't require the healing or isn't difficult to land the "E" ability, taking "Q" here is fine.

I usually alternate at this point between both "Q" and "W" at this point. I do this because:

Power Leveling "W": You will heal more and grant more speed boost and thats great, but you will provide zero damage. If playing super passive because of the enemy team composition, this is fine.

Power Leveling "Q": You'll have great poke, your poke will be up more frequent, and you'll slow the target(s) more and more often, great. However, your heal will be relegated to a minor heal (almost non existent), an Aery proc, and a very minor speed boost.

The reason I alternatate is because if you have either power leveled, and that ability is on CD when you're engaged, you pretty much are in extreme trouble. Alternating between both still provides the "I slow you and grant myself a speed boost" but you only suffer slightly less healing and damage.

Lastly, If you take Triple Tonic in the Inspiration minor rune tree (which I do), you will end up with 4 points in both "Q" and "W" at level 9.
Runes
Sorcery Tree:

Summon Aery: Provides the much needed poke that Kayle suffers from in the early game. Also is viable mid and late game due to having increased heal and shield power.

Manaflow Band: To help with Kayle's early game mana issues and also increases Diadem's effectiveness.

Transcendence vs Celerity: I take Transcendence here because it's pairs nicely with Kayle's level 11 spike. This coupled with Jack of all Trades (which I take), really stops the CDR problem Kayle suffers from in the beginning, and not getting CDR as much within the items. Transcendence and JoaT frees you to take other items without suffering the drawbacks. Celerity is such a good alternative for Kayle. She gets and grants so much movement speed that you just benefit so well from it. Though I recommend switching from the Inspiration tree to Precision tree to gain Legend: Alacrity and Presence of Mind or Coup De Grace.

Scorch vs. Gathering Storm: I take Scorch here to help with Kayle's damage issue in the beginning. Since "E" is a free ability and will always be available when Scorch is ready, you guarantee this is always procing. Gathering Storm seems good on paper for Kayle because it is a scaling rune and Kayle is a scaling champion, and even thouhg I gush over Jack of all Trades, Kayles ratios are just bad. I just think Scorch provides so much more.

I do want to be transparent here, I haven't used Gathering Storm on Kayle enough to properly test its outcome.

Inspiration Tree:
I mainly take this tree for Jack of all Trades.

Triple Tonic: The first potion grants gold and increased damage to minions incase you need to last hit the cannon to share gold. The second potion isn't gonna grant you much of a boost cause Kayle's low ratios to her abilities, but still... doesn't hurt to have free AP or AD for a trade. Lastly, I take this rune for its third potion, which allows me to gain my 4th point in both "Q" and "W" at level 9, since I alternate between both skills. I honestly just picked it cause it has some synergy with how I play her skills. Feel free to take another rune over this one. Its honestly just personal preference.

Jack of all Trades: When playing Kayle support, it ALWAYS killed me to not take Precision's: Presence of Mind and Alacrity: Speed. PoM is insane on Kayle. She has a free ability that can proc PoM and she has massive mana issues. Not taking Alacrity: Speed on Kayle is criminal.

So why do I go Inspiration for JoaT? I like to play Kayle as an assist support, not a carry support. I only recently started taking JoaT (Since I started running the Diadem and Censor combo, which was when Diadem was introduced). JoaT allows you to get away with going zero CDR in the beginning. Boots, Tear of the Goddess, and Ardent Censor give you a full JoaT. What this means is that; you are giving Ardent Censor the one thing it doesn't have and the one thing it needs. When you purchase your 2nd sub-item from Ardent Censor, you will be at 10 stacks. It also puts Ardent Censors ability power from 45 to 60. Transcendence, JoaT, and the Ability Haste from the lesser runes grant 30 AH total.

Transcendence = 10
JoaT = 10-12
Lesser Rune = 8

I love this combination; allowing your runes to make up not taking CDR.

Lesser Runes: I take the non adaptive runes here cause Kayle's ratios are terrible. You just gain so much more from the other options.
