As we are playing Ap Kennen I don't feel that exhaust is a good choice. I take Flash and ignite. Although Kennen can kite MOST champions, flash is always a good failsafe and saves your life or can be used to initiate with ult and zhonyas to bring more bang to a teamfight.Ignite is also good for securing kills and for reducing enemies healing such as the summoner spell heal or Nidalees E which can sometimes turn a fight around.
Kennen should be selected as a safe pick for top, or as a counter pick. Kennen does well against champions solo top lane or in a 1v2 situation against champions like Trynd, Darius, Irelia, Udyr, Renekton, and Swain. Kennen can bait enemies into tower diving, then using his passive procs or his ulti to stun under tower and get a kill. Kennen is strongest ap, so make sure to have an Ad carry and jungler to make sure you opponent just doesnt stack magic resist.
Okay, this is the tricky part. Which skills to max first? IF in lane against a Bruiser and you out range them. Max Q and W first, 80% of the time this will be the case. Just land q and then get in range for your w and if W passive is up auto attack. If against another ranged champion( kayle included) max your w and e. Here is why, You are Kennen, if you can get in with your e use q and then w this will stun them and allowing you to get away most of the time.
First off, Get Rylias. This will give you health and decent dmg output. Kennen is squishy and this item needs to be rushed. Sometimes if I know i wont be harrased to much in lane i will forego boots and pots and get the amplifying tome and a pot to get Rylais that much quicker. Depending on Whats going on in lane. if you are getting harrassed a lot i would go ahead and get a WoTa ( Will of the Ancients) for the !spell vamp! If you are winning lane (kills or cs or your just not getting harrassed very much) go ahead and get a Deathcap, this will give you the dmg you will need to be a serious threat to the enemy team. If you find that you are A- getting focused in teamfights or B- need a good initiate. Then get a Zhonyas , just go in with your e, ult then use zhonyas while your team continues to kill everyone :D. If this isnt the case and you have someone such as Jarvan or Blitz, get a void staff. This will give you more Ap, and Magic pen for those tankier characters. To top it all of, get your Gaurdians Angel, so if you die, you can just keep on throwing those shurikens
