I found out by experience that Skarner is a beast as hybrid. His shield also stacks by AP so he will get tanky aswell. This build works well against Darius while top laning. You would want to change out smite with ignite though :)

Sell Dorans shield for Atmas impaler or if you need slot spaces.
After you get Sheen, Skarner will get very powerful.
