Personally I'd take flat ap or flat hp instead of armor for thresh.

Lulwut? The runes and masters I have ARE tanky? Only thing that's not tanky about the Runes is the GP5, and masteries are a guideline. I take enough points in utility to get pickpocket because of how good Thresh's lane harass is, you're welcome to use the points in defense if you want, Masteries are really just personal preference. I don't really understand where you're coming from with that...

Edit: Also, I rush a Locket of the Iron Solari. Your comment makes no sense...

With Thresh you have to build him with Tanky Runes and Masteries or else he will be killed easily in lane. He must have tanky runes and items early game or else you rely on collecting souls which is really bad idea especially if you are laning against AD champs like or or .

The Marks are there to make up for the Armour you lack early, if I were going for late game Armour I would've had scaling xD, but it's mainly to make up for the fact that Thresh's base Armour can be pretty poor, and even when you get fully stacked souls, with my build you usually don't hit 200 Armour, so the extra doesn't really go to waste, especially not with all of the armour pen going about - more armour means there's more they have to penetrate =]. If you want to switch to AD Marks, you can though =]

Love this guide, though I do recommend changing the marks to AD. You don't really need the armor from the marks since you get so very tanky later on from souls making the Armor Marks a waste.

Used thresh in about 30 game's now and have used the guide for most. Just works so well and can dominate the enemy with my tankines and slow's = P + 1

Would appreciate more than just 'didn't work for me'... is that 'I played one game and did badly therefore the guide is bad', 'I played multiple games and did badly therefore the guide is bad', or 'I haven't tried it I just don't think it's good'? And if it's any of those could you elaborate.
