horrible early levels. when other casters shine in mid game he is just starting to catch up.
standard carry style - but we are using mages for other things:
1) CC king morgana/annie as teamplayers
2) DPS brand/LB to decimate enemies mid game
And AD carry > AP carry sustain.
CDR Vlad can do a lot of dmg and quite high survivability. But have limited sustain in short fights.

I'll try be serious here, I personally am not a fan of Vlad, he's not my kind of caster (I prefer Cassiopea-LB-Morg-swain) but my duo buddy got him a few days ago, started using him in ranked, and started like immediatly pwning the living **** out of enemies (usually he fails at casters), and Vlad didn't really seem UP to me. onstead his skills seem to still do a lot of damage, not to mention a good use of ult is just a winning move.
Then again I dunno, I see him play and go 100% win out of 10 games, maybe he just has a good affinity with the char (I'm not a caster type either yet when I bought cassiopea 2 weeks ago I raped immediatly)

Still a decent pick for solo top, not as strong as he used to be because of all the nerfs (the amount of QQ over Vlad was insane) but I still think he can do a good job. Has to survive the early levels but is still quite strong during the mid/late game.
Not a pick for mid, why someone would ever play him there I can't understand... He's not really an AP carry tbh..

Vladimir is being reallt underrated at the moment.
Riot was nerfing sustainability like a little *****, Vladimir's sustain is still the best in the game. Excluding Supports. He doesn't need HP items such as Randuin's, so you go AP, he isn't concerned with mana, so need to get that Frozen Heart, he just needs that early Rabadon and Vladimir is a farming machine :) Rabadon on 15-16 minutes and you will be winning the game too easily, focusing Hextech isn't as good as it used to be, it's decent, but IMO, Vladimir's sustain after 9 is enormous, at level 7 you can harass and farm at one time, unless you lane against Kassadin/ Zilean, Morgana and Brand aren't much thread to Vlad, for real.
Vlad is still an AP Carry, he is just tankier than all of them, that's nice because he counterplays that all Nuke-you-down Carries, and Vlad's combo still nukes nevertheless. I mean, with small buffs, like I mean, really, really small, maybe just base damage increasement by 5 or +0.1 more scaling on his Q/R could make him a possible FOTM. He counters MOST of Top lane champions due to his range and sustainability, he is still a great mid, if you succesfully gank Vlad, he isn't a good Vlad e.e
Vladimir with a ward and Sanguine Pool always escapes ganks :) Only thing you can do is to deny him in first 3-5 levels, cause at this time he is still fragile. From level 6, he can rape. Going for 30% CDR and Blue Elixir is great, your cooldowns are way lower than most of the casters from the game and you become a real fighter in closer range.
I used to say, Vladimir's is a One-Man Army, he can actually win a teamfight by himself if not taken down.
I forgot where he was in Tier Lists, but IMO, he deserves a High Tier 2 place, he isn't as bad as people think and I'm proving it every single time I use him. Such an underrated pick now, a shame.

Simply put other than I just enjoy playing Vlad there are SO many FAR superior choices in the game as it is today. And it PAINS me to say that because I highly enjoy playing Vlad and when I play him I still do well. But most other AP casters are simply better in almost every facet and since this is a team game there are plenty of better team picks. And every time I play him I KNOW I could have picked someone better regardless of the fact that I play him well. (Or I used to. Haven't taken him out for a spin in a while.)
I think a simple increase in his Q range would help him so much... and an E rework or tweak. His Q range sometimes feels about the same as Warwicks
HOWEVER, with all that said, if you truly enjoy playing someone you should play them. Unless you are playing for tourney gold or for some serious rank or something. Do what you enjoy doing.
