With Chrome on phone, random tool tips appear while scrolling, so you're basically suggesting he trade 1 bleh option for another bleh option. Chrome also doesn't fix the lack of "hovering" with phones that he's talking about with the hover menus.

Indeed, it's impossible to hover your mouse over tabs, as you don't have anything else than your finger
We could possibly make the tabs different; whereas when we tap them, it opens the menu we normally would have when hovering with a mouse.

What you're describing is the standard mobile-friendly navigation. In example, on wordpress, the top menu shrinks into a compact slide out version if you look at it on your phone, or if you just decrease the width of your browser on your computer.

When you're at your phone (I'm using a iPhone 5s), it's impossible to highlight the tabs to get the option to choose subcategories. As smartphones only have a tap, it's literally impossible to click yourself into i.e. member blogs, unless you write the direct link in your search bar.
There's also a lot of flickering and so on. Is there anything I or you could do to fix things like this?
Sincerely,
