Upload the picture into a picture storage sight... Like photobucket, tinypic, imageshack, etc..
Pictures can't be linked to your computer's files, even a custom avatar would be a copy, not directly linked.

You have to upload it to a website first. I recommend imageshack.us
Upload it to a website, then left-click click on the picture once it is uploaded.
After that, right-click on the picture and then click "Copy Image URL"
Next, you put your (img)(/img) and paste the url in between those two.
