Red Buff deals true DoT and slows the buff user's target. Blue buff increases mana regen and gives 10% CDR. Baron gives AP, AD, and dual regen.
Solo top is solo top on both sides. The map is not turned for purple team. Dual bot is common since that gives an advantage when taking Dragon.

1. Red = Every hit deals 10-44 (8 + [2 x level]) damage and slows enemies (8/16/24% for melee or 5/10/15% for ranged attacks) for 3 seconds.
Blue = This unit regens 25 flat mana regeneration per 5 seconds and 0.5% of their maximum mana (or energy) per second and has 10% cooldown reduction on their abilities
Baron = The buff grants:
Up to 40 ability power
Up to 40 attack damage
3% of your maximum health in health regeneration per 5 sec.
1% of your maximum mana in mana regeneration per 5 sec.
2. Solo top means that the lane which is at the top of the map is for one people only and there is no one else there. Solo bot doesn't really exist unless top and bot changes lanes.

Top and mid are the "solo lanes", though in low-level games you'll generally have people playing 2 top 1 mid and 2 bot.
When you reach level 30 the meta (the way the lanes are played, put simply) is 1 top - 1 mid - 2 bot (a ranged AD champ also called marksman and a support-type champion) - and 1 jungler.
The reason people at lower levels call solo top is because they are probably a bit more experienced than most people at that level and they want to play top solo as it is usually done at level 30.
This is an image on how the jungle looks.

It shows all the camps on both sides of the map and as you can see they are each others mirror images. (top left becomes bottom right, top right becomes bottom left.)
The only difference is the 2 images you see in the river.
The one on top (purpleish monster thingy) is the Baron you mentioned in your buff questions.
The dragon is, well, a dragon. You kill him to get your team gold and experience.
And don't worry about your questions being "noobish" there is no shame in being new to the game if you're as willing to learn as you are :)
It's good to see people investing their time to ask questions like this on a forum like Mobafire so they can learn the game better :)

1. What do the three buffs do exactly? (Red, Blue, Baron)
2. When you say solo top in LoL terminology, does it mean solo top for both sides or does it also mean solo bot for the purple team?
