Preface: I am a ****py low ELO player who wants desperately to improve my gameplay. I don't just wanna "climb outta ELO hole", I just want to improve my play, and hope that that follows.

So I have always thought I'm "half-decent" at last hitting, i.e. when I'm FOCUSED on it, I can get CS. However, I have been thinking about something. At high ELO games, where both players understand the game will most likely be close, they spend the laning phase more focused on farming than on harassment, they are more conscious of their positioning, and it is very very unlikely that one of the solo lanes will land a 1v1 kill.

Contrast that with low ELO games, where often times due to opponent's positioning (or lack thereof) you are really forced to trade, and to concentrate more on your opponent than on last farming. I realize that the truly skilled player will find a balance between doing that and STILL getting last hits, but i'm just not there yet. This effect is only exacerbated by the fact that often at low ELO, you can't depend on other lanes, so often times if my bot lane takes some early deaths, or my jungler died in the jungle (sigh), I feel pressure to ahve to try to "snowball", so I play aggressively, trying to get kills. If I can pull some off, I can carry pretty hard, but if not, then I'm just underfarmed. Better to continue to play passively, and try my best for cs, even if i'm not quite at the point of being able to get EVERY cs in each wave.

Any tips you have about prioritizing last hitting over harassment, or just whether you think what i'm saying DOES make last hitting more problematic in low ELO, I'd appreciate it. Like I said, just trying to improve my gameplay.

TL;DR - In addition to lower player skill, lower CS in low ELO games can be attributed to the fact that players try to "trade" and go for kills much more often, as well as the fact that because you can't depend on other lanes, you feel the need to play aggressively, get kills, and snowball. Any tips on how to improve my last hitting?

Thanks guys! Really appreciate the help!

Create a custom game with a bot (Bruiser/Tank like chogat) and practice, practice a lot.

The biggest concept you need to understand in these situations is "Zoning". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kxGQ3gWdrM This is a great guide to the basic concepts of Zoing. Using these techniques, you will effectively lock out your opponent from farming, be able to last hit creeps, and even be able to put your opponents into such a bad position that you can kill them with relative ease. I cannot impress upon you enough the importance of following this concept, it DOES work, it IS essential to high ELO gameplay, and if you are on bot with a partner, you HAVE to have someone next to you that ALSO understands it or the entire thing will fall apart. Solo top can do it by himself usually, i suggest starting off with someone like Olaf or Mordekaiser to get the hang of it. Im guessing this is the one key piece of the puzzle you are missing. Hope this helps XD

Those are the thing that change games, if you can sustain a decent CS taking the less damage possible you are a good player. But the Low elo people's mind is KILL KILL KILL and KILL and that makes your game more harder than the normal.

Yes, my new project start it. Feel free to PM me and give me suggestions to be the best blog on MOBAfire!

The thing is, if your underfarmed and can't lasthit much you rely on kills, and UNLESS your getting lots of kills you will be lacking gold and build, and all that playing offensive strategy will fail, oh not even mentioning how pushing/playing offensive leaves your lane open to ganks also do know that, The best laning is lasthitting minions whenever possible and farming, and harrassing the enemy whenever there's no minions to lasthit or when the enemy is weak

Simplest solution: Practice.

Melee Minion: Melee minions charge directly against the enemy. Three spawn each wave. Melee minions have more health than Caster Minions. On Summoner's Rift, they initially grant 22 gold on death in the first wave, increasing by +1 gold after the first wave, and +1 gold for every 5 minutes after. On Twisted Treeline, they initially grant 29 gold on death, which then increases at the same rate as on Summoner's Rift.

Caster Minion: Caster minions attack enemies from a range by firing bolts of energy that are the same color as their teams. Three spawn each wave. On Summoner's Rift, they initially grant 16 gold on death in the first wave, increasing by +1 gold after the first wave, and +1 gold for every 5 minutes after. On Twisted Treeline, they initially grant 22 gold on death, which then increases at the same rate as on Summoner's Rift.

The standard gain per kill is 300 gold. Every kill of one champion increases the reward gained per killing it by 10%, up to a maximum of 500 gold. Each death of one champion reduces the rewards gained per killing it by 9% for the first death and 21% for every death afterwards, to a minimum of 15 gold. If the champion breaks its death streak by getting a kill, its value is reset to 300 gold. On the other hand, every kill that is done without death (called a killing spree) increases the bounty to a maximum of 500 gold. The gold bounty is not reset when the champion is executed without any enemy champion contributing to it. Being on a killing spree only affects the gold gained upon your death. First Blood (the first kill of the match) gives an additional 100 gold (400 total) beyond the basic amount for the kill.

All taken from LoL Wiki

Last hitting would be more beneficial. Plus, it'll make your enemy worth more and you worth less, while the minions will continue to be worth more every 5 minutes (according to LoL Wiki).

In the beginning, If you get a 20cs advantage over your opponent, and they kill you, you will have more gold (roughly 20 gold per minion, 20*20=400 [but you will probably have slightly more than 400]) than your opponent (300 gold for killing you + 100 for first blood)

EDIT: Sorry posted this when I was super sleepy. What I was trying to say is just to focus on last hitting. Practice practice and practice. Then focus more on getting your farm rather than harassing. Getting a few kills is nice but as you can see the value of the enemy champion will decrease as the value of yourself increases. If you can gain a large farm advantage it will outweigh your deaths. Just play games and solely practice last hitting; start with a few customs then go practice a few normal games. You'll learn the perfect balance between harassing and last hitting (To be honest I hardly harass at all, I like to get a huge farm advantage).

practice makes perfect, pretty cliche, but seriously, it applies in this situation.

Take a champ who has an auto-attack animation you like.
On every champ that needs to last hit, take the masteries improving your damage to minions and 1 or 2 points in AD (even on AP caster champ).

As enemies want to trade, take a champ who can trade/harass with skills and not auto attacks. Try to last hit only with your AA's so you can trade with skills. If you think you won't need a spell to trade in the x following sec then you can use it to catch a minion.
Pick good champ (understand the world of sololanes), demolish them in trade/harass then zone them and farm, or kill them if they keep being braindeadly aggressive.

GP is good to train, you can use autoattacks and Q to last hit (while training, not in every situation).
Champs with "skill reseting autoattack" like Yorick and shyvana's Q are good to train too.

Heavy aoe champ are cool to farm but won't help you to last hit properly.
English is not my native langage, I'm sorry about how painful to read my text are :c
