Well I like the whole mage aspect in most games, and want to know which champions fit that role well, but so far when I ask my veteran friend about any specific one, he says they are terrible. At the moment I've been playing veigar and liking him, but i'm curious what other characters are like him play wise that are considered "good" as my friend puts it.

viegar is a lot of fun imo. As for your topic Xerath, Malz, Cass, Kass, Morgana, Rumble are all solid choices but xerath and cass require a little bit more of skill

as for me the first caster i bought was karthus and that dont work out to succesfully for me, then i bought malz and instantly he just fit my playstyle

You like Veigar? You like Le Blanc.

Thanks for the help guys, i'll be sure to try those characters out if they become weekly characters, I did try morgana, and she was pretty cool.

In no order

Morgana
Cassiopeia
Xerath
Karthus
Ryze
Kassadin

I'm not too sure about Brand. He used to be great, but I haven't been following him, he may have been nerfed or something, so I don't want you to buy, and then blame me >.<

As for fun?

Malzahar.Malzahar is incredibly fun to play, and will be very effective if you're lower level.

Really it depends on your skill level though. For example, Katarina, and Nunu will both stomp all over newer players. But are not nearly as good in high level play.

Veigar is a solid first buy for a nuke. The best part about Veigar is that he counters other nukes so, so hard with Primordial Burst and he has a reliable stun.

Xerath and Cassiopeia are extremely powerful but, as said up there, need lots of practice to bring out their full capabilities.

Ryze is another great nuke for beginners and Athene mains him. Ryze is a spammer so playing him to properly learn how to smart-cast will make it a quick process.

Kassadin has great mobility, nuking power, and a friggin' silence.

Annie is simple and easy to learn but has one of the best burst combos in the game. AoE stun anyone?

Morgana is super tanky and has a lot of disables.

Malz is good at all elo levels :).

Last week I discovered Veigar during his free week, and since then I've only played him!
Man I love him, even because he is squishy as hell...:

1. An awesome comboburst (E > W > Deathfire Grasp > Q/R)
2. A very nice stun meant for different purposes (You can use it to initiate, escape, save teammates and more!)
3. (THE BEST :D) It's hilarious to see enemies go down in 2 seconds or something (even tanks!)

But I want to ADVISE YOU that Veigar isn't the mage you should be playing if you just started LoL! He needs to have a good helpful team to fully achieve his potential!

Atm, I played with him a few Normal Draft games to practice a bit before I start going ranked and it really worked well. I had scores like 15-4-10 which I didn't accomplish with other mages! I'm looking forward to my first ranked game this evening :)
