I don't think it matters as long as the cup is glass (due to particles being tight enough for the water to slide). Also completely vertical directional movement seems important, too.

Great, it's probably physicaly possible (to bad i'm not good at physics :S)
It looks awesome, but i won't try it, i would do too much mess and parents would probably kill me for spilling water on whole kitchen...
