Hello,
since the most extreme religion of earth has released their new model, the iPhone 6 and 6+, you can see debates about the 3 (or rather 2) systems all over the internet.
But, here I want to know about the mobafire-opinions on these.

As most of the internet users arleady noticed iOS vs Android happens everywhere, everyday.

So here is my question: Which OS do you prefer? Why? Why not?

I am just going to put my opinion into a spoiler, cause it is biased as **** (at least I think it is):

iOS sucks.

My friend has a windows phone and he claims that it's really great apart from the fact that the company behind it consists of a bunch of ****heads. xD (other than this I have no insight so eh)

I personally like Android phones much more because of the higher variety and unique feel to your phone because there are SO MANY CHOICES! ...performance wise I don't really care as long as its enough to surf the web at reasonable speed 8)

Haven't used an iphone nor do I ever plan to use one. Why would I pay so much for a product that's exactly the same (arguably worse, owait no DEFINITELY WORSE) as the much lower priced products available out there?

It's just common sense, really :/
Thanks to Koksei for the sig!

You know what I am excited about with the new iPhones? The camera. Most importantly: phase detection auto focus. That's kind of a big deal and I hope other manufacturers pick up on it.

Yup.
The shortlist of companies to avoid is: Microsoft, Apple and Samsung.
All of them are extremely greedy and do deplorable things.

Since we are talking about phones here you are actually wrong on that.
Apple has generally been roughly on par with the competition when it comes to high-end phones. I.e: Samsung, HTC, Sony and LG.
There are of course high end phones that cost a lot less, but that is because they don't have a marketing budget. Those brands include Nexus (Google), Oneplus, OPPO and Xaiomi.

iOS being lag-free in contrast to Android? What the hell are those people comparing iOS to? Samsung Android Touch Wiz?

Historically? Yes, iOS has been smoother than Android. Currently? Debatable. As of iOS 7 Apple introduced a lot of transparency effects. Such effects are very taxing in terms of performance, as evidenced by the older devices that got the update and clearly lagged after the update.
But Android still has pauses for GC that iOS doesn't have, among a few other things, so Android isn't quite there yet, even if it's very close.

But you know what? The OS that is the most fluid right now is Windows Phone. It does a lot of things wrong and lacks a ton of functionality compared to Android (but so kind of does iOS), but fluidity is the one thing it does well.

iOS performs better than high-end Android phones with Snapdragon 801?
Well their A8 chip might be good with the 1.4 GHz Dual Core, and they boast themselves with their better benchmarks.
But at what resolution does this piece of **** work? 750 x 1334!
While high-end phones like One+One, Mi4, Note 4, S5, Z2, etc. work on FullHD - 1080 x 1920.
Let the Snapdragon 801 work on the same resolution and tell me again that the A8 is better.

The A8 is better.
The A7 was in between the Snapdragon 800 and 801 in performance. (and 801 was a minor update of 800, so they're all very comparable)
Hertz(Hz, which in the thousands of millions become GHz) are NOT a good measurement of performance. If the A7 performed similar to 800 while having less than half the "raw numbers" then it should be blatantly clear that it's a terrible way to measure performance.

A8 vs Snapdragon 805 though? Probably 805. A8 likely has a more powerful CPU, while 805 dominates in the GPU department.

There are things called off-screen tests to help with resolution differences. They render the scene in 1080p regardless of screen resolution.

1GB RAM is enough, because iOS is so optimized, why isn't Android optimized?
1GB RAM might be enough for your fake multitasking aka stop and resume, but Android devices use real time multi tasking which requires more RAM and power alltogether

Nope. It's not enough. The difference in memory usage between the platforms isn't that large.
Apple should be shipping devices with 2GB RAM by now. It boggles my mind that they don't.
Apple has been relying on really fast RAM, but seeing as the opposition has almost as fast RAM while simultaneously having double or triple the capacity their advantages dwindle.

You seem to be under the misconception that RAM is for multitasking. Well, it is, but there's another more important part for mobile devices: program history. So if you open an app and then go to the homescreen, open another and then go back to the first app again. If you're short on memory then the OS will have to remove the previous app from the memory when you start the other app. Which means that the first app will have to reload everything when you start it again. However if there is free memory available the first app won't have to be reloaded since the information remains in the RAM even when the app is off. That means that the app will not only start quicker, but also drain less battery doing so.

Yeah that UI SUCKS.
It looks nice on the outside, but is highly impractical.

I will agree to that. The iOS GUI is traditional, impractical and lacking in functionality.

That was actually quite reasonable, and I will agree on that and pick those arguements up. Ty Searz

In the end current smartphones are just computers with terrible input and output devices for us mere human mortals. They all suck.

Sometimes it looks like developers and phone manufacturers have forgotten that fact.

/thread

If I had to choose between these three I would probably go for Windows Phone since I don't do anything fancy with a smartphone and I like how the Metro interface looks. As long as it has a note-taking application, perhaps a calendar, a decent real-time route planner using gps(how do you call those things), a way to phone and text and maybe a browser I'm more than happy. Oh and one of those keep-the-flash-on-so-I-can-find-the-keyhole things.

On the topic of Microsoft:

Wow, Microsoft has a ton of product placement in How I Met Your Mother season 6 episode 4.
Placement for Bing, placement for Xbox360 and Kinect. Real natural guys. Because people actually use Bing and buy the Kinect..

http://www.android.com/one/
Soo, Google just introduced the "One". Why does every damn manufacturer need to make a damn phone named "One"?
Google has even made a "One" already, in the form of the Nexus One.
Seriously.. (well, technically Google doesn't manufacture their own phones, but still)

In short: it's a really cheap phone with good hardware for the price, sold to compete in developing countries like India, which was prominently shown in the video.

It's obviously not very interesting in more expensive markets seeing as people call the Nexus phones cheap there, but it could be a big deal that Google does the software for this phone.
