AP Nasus sounds amazing in theory, but it has a few issues:
1. His main AP spell has a 12 second cooldown
2. His ult requires Nasus to be in the middle of the fight in order to deal damage, thus taking a lot of damage.
3. Although Lich Bane synergises greatly with Nasus' Q, it deals enough damage already without Lich Bane when farmed properly.
4. Nasus already has quite high base damage ratios on E and R and in order to significantly increase that power Nasus needs a lot of AP (~500). That, however, collides with point 2, as he isn't able to take a lot of damage if Nasus doesn't build defenses.
Basically, building AP on Nasus requires Nasus to sacrifice a defensive item which he also needs in order to deal damage. AP Nasus is funny and I would always pick it up in ARAM if I get the doge, but in a regular SR game you should do enough damage with Q farm only thus making AP Nasus a not-so-great idea. You could take 1 AP item I guess (Liandrys or Rylais could work), but that would absolutely be luxury. As Nasus isn't in a really good spot in the first place, I doubt you will have that luxury until Nasus gets a better spot.
If you don't care about being good and just wanna wreck nubs in normal games, then yay go AP Nasus.

I think there's a way to get around Squishy Nasus. Frozen Heart/Archangel's/RoA might help, and I'm still very curious to see if his ulti will persist through Zhonya's. His main damage-dealer does have a high cooldown, but with the Frozen Heart mentioned earlier he might be able to do a little better. And, since it's Nasus, he doesn't do a whole lot of damage apart from his Q, which doesn't scale AD hard and will do tons of damage with your increased spellblade proc from Lich Bane. If his ult does damage equal to what I've seen on the occasional AP Nasus, it might be good. I'm not claiming it to be some LCS diamonds in the rough but I feel with the use of an ult, good positioning, and a huge DoT that reduces armor he will then have ~400 AD, and his Q might be even stronger.
Just a thought. I'm really hype to see if Zhonya's stays, doubt it does but it'd be rad.

Fury of the Sands - "Nasus converts 6.375% of the damage done by the sandstorm into bonus attack damage for himself (max of 300 bonus attack damage)."
Jeezy Creezy, pup. So, apparently Nasus is strong beyond belief. 300 AD, the guy can give himself 300 AD; granted, he'd have to stand on a lot of people and do a lot of magic damage but it seems pretty possible. Also I'm curious if the AoE persists through Zhonya's. Build a Liandray's on him, make the % damage be ludicrous. Whatdya guys think?
