I'd say that ad master yi's biggest problem is not the randomness on his Q, but his viability into the meta, basicaly no CC and has to build alot of damage and just a few defense to be able to make an actual difference.

^ This. That's why Fiora and Tryndamere are out of the picture, too, but Yi seems to be harmed the most out of the three.

Big Monsters are the monsters with health runes/buffs and dragon.
With this changes, Master Yi would deal initially less damage, but because the damage is more reliable, he would overall deal more damage. Also his jungle speed would increase because of the double hit on big monsters.
