UNIQUE Passive: Gain 2 stacks for each champion kill and 1 stack for each assist, up to a maximum of 10 stacks. Lose 5 stacks on death. Stacks are preserved when upgrading to Mejai's Soulstealer.

UNIQUE Passive: Gain 4 ability power for each stack of Glory.

Then don't use it? It is more of an option for those tiems where you are getting fed (remember assists count too) or know you will get fed. You will see people like noghtblue3 build it a lot because they are jungling and their job is to secure kills and such. Sometimes it can be built just because of the champ you are playing. Though to maximize the use of this item it is best to have some experience in league first.

Indeed. I personally think that this item shines on Katarina the most, as her main role is to teamfight. The low cost makes it the most gold efficient way to get AP in the entire game(1400 gold for 145 AP) but can also be a deceptive waste if your character, situation, or level of experience does not let it work.
