[15.5] New PvE mode: Ao Shin's Ascent

Get ready for Ao Shin's Ascent, the newest Teamfight Tactics PvE mode, which debuts on Wednesday with Patch 15.5.

Ao Shin’s Ascent

A new Teamfight Tactics PvE mode is coming to the live servers this Wednesday! Free your pals Choncc, Whisker, Powder Monkey, Pengu and Ao Shin by fighting up the summit, thwarting enemy bots and earning various rewards. Ao Shin’s Ascent is a limited-time mode, which will be available from the start of Patch 15.5 until the end of Patch 15.6.

How To Play

Ao Shin’s Ascent plays similarly to Tocker’s Trials, where you as the player battle it out against a series of bot matches, each round escalating in difficulty. There are five battles in total, each with their own challenges and rewards. Each battle is a fairly standard K.O. Coliseum TFT match, with the expected set of units, Traits, Augments and Power Ups. However, there are a few notable differences:

  • Each round lasts only up until 3-6; roughly around 10 to 15 minutes.

  • Celestial Challenges pop up during the game, escalating the difficulty of the match, but providing a small amount of gold to compensate.

  • At 3-6, a boss battle awaits you; and, at higher heights, the bosses are modified to be even more dangerous.

  • You are aided by one of fourteen Guides over the course of your ascent.

A typical Celestial Challenge. Pick your poison.

Main Mechanic: Guides

Guides, you could say, serve as a substitute for opening encounters in standard games. These units offer a match-long boon of some kind; from doing damage to enemy units each round, to providing loot orbs, or healing ally units. Each of the four guides comes with two variants which provide a specific Augment for the duration of the game. Baker Pantheon grants you the Cooking Pot Gold Augment, while Cyber Pop Zoe provides Pandora’s Items from the beginning.

To unlock guides, all you have to do is play. As you move along the journey track, you’ll unlock various boons as well as Guides and their variants. You’ll unlock the first variant Guide at rank 15, for example.

Two of the guides, Truth Dragon Yasuo and Battle Queen Gwen, are not unlockable for free. You can only acquire these by purchasing the Ao Shin Ascent Mega Bundle. In addition to these two guides, you’ll also get two Little Legends—Awakened Ao Shin and Sol Harbinger Ao Shin—part 2 of the K.O. Coliseum Pass, and an Ao Shin Emote. All of these will remain yours forever, but the guides, being exclusive to the Ao Shin Ascent event, will only be yours until October 21. The bundle costs 2780 RP.

Truth Dragon Yasuo joins the field as a unit, which is upgraded at stages 2-2 and 3-2, while Battle Queen Gwen provides you with special items from past and present sets, such as Chemtech Loot from the Into The Arcane set.

Find the Ao Shin Ascent Mega Bundle in the TFT store.

Journey Track

As mentioned before, the other twelve guides are unlockable in-game by progressing through the journey track. You can find the journey track in the bottom left corner of the Ao Shin Ascent tab of Teamfight Tactics in the client. Earn experience for the track by playing Ao Shin Ascent runs, and earn more by completing specific missions.

Rewards

Aside from the joy you’ll get from playing, there are a few other rewards to look forward to if you dive into Ao Shin’s Ascent! Each time you rescue one of your five Little Legend pals, you’ll earn a plethora of awards. You’ll always gain journey track XP, as well as up to 100 Star shards, up to 400 Realm Crystals, 100 Treasure Tokens, and, if you reach the summit, “Angry Ao Shin” Emote, and the Dragon Dive Portal.
